i think many of you know congressman smith was hair of the house armed services committee -- chair -- spanning two with national defense centrals and a whole heck of a lot going on around the world. he's also now a member of congress for 26 years running prosecute great state of washington -- from the great state of washington, 9th district. he was the youngest state senator in the country before joining congress. before that he really lived and demonstrated the values that he tries to represent in congress, i know, every day. if you study his writings and read his bio and learn about the pride in his family from the working class roots, how he worked for ups, went to law school and did a lot of important work in the state of washington really holding two jobs at the same time before joining can house of representatives after the 1996 election. he's worked on the foreign affairs committee and excellence and had a -- and intelligence and had a number of jobs on the armed services committee where i trust you'll be remaining now as ranking member, but i don't even know that for a fact --
