governor recognized the work of arnie duncan. it's -- of arne duncan, it's hard to take precedent. notwithstanding the fact i glue up in chicago, i think the president deserves credit. it wasn't a point of contention in the presidential race. with the exception of kind of a throw away question that jim lehrer gave to the two candidates at a debate which i would note about half of the answer on both sides ended up being about green jobs and the solyndra loan, there was virtually -- very little mention in the presidential race and i think that's unfortunate for our country. i want to come back to how we change that dynamic a little bit. however there was a lot happening in state and local races and i think that does give us a snapshot of where voters stand on many of the issues many discussed at this conference. to me there are a few take aways that education reformers should consider as we try to move forward on the ambitious agenda the governor laid out this morning. let's start with substance. we have to remember that this is about putting kids first. the politics are important, b
