arnie klein, michael jackson's doctor, who said he had diagnosed him with lupis, an autoimmune disease some of us looking at the iconic images. is there something -- well, is there a clue? we thought they were eccentricities. the umbrella. the surgical mask. the signature white glove. could this be a personal style to deguise the disease? joining us, is dr. robert lahita, expert and author. what is lupis? >> lupis is an autoimmune disease, where the system, that's protecting us against germs and viruses, attacks our own body, cells and tissues. >> let's talk about some of the consequences of that. vitiligo, michael jackson acknowledged having vitiligo, having splotches of the skin. is this related? >> he had a form of skin lupis, called discoid lupis, which affects about 40% of the patients with lupis. and you get depigmentation. >> let's look at the umbrella. you have said, one thing for lupis patients, don't let the sun hit your skin. >> that's right. that's right. >> an umbrella, would you carry out in the sun, may have been just that. >> that's correct. >> and there was something e
