it is a reflection of what our asian art museum is contributing to the dialogue around art itself. a year ago, we had the three heads and the 6 armi buddha that was another example of international art. this lotus suggest to you the feeling of international modern art. it is one thing the that that our asian art museum begins this month with their exhibition of -- what is the spots going on in the rest of the world? i know the asian art museum did a great job with the historic artifacts. but they wanted to be much more than that. they want to contribute to what is going on in the world today. what are the international artists thinking about? what message are they sending to the rest of the world? what is going on in their mind across the world that would perhaps contribute to our own thoughts and values? this is an example of what i think will be an exciting contribution for years to come. what else can we expect from the rest of the world's throughout our asian counterparts in the far east? i have been happy to help cris andhristen -- help christen this effort. activities that wi

the visual arts project. it was especially important in san francisco because of dieggo rivera and radicalizing it. this is the coit towers. this was done under cw a. 1934. the wpa wasn't in existence. this is the very first of the relieve projects. harry hopkins said, they have to eat too. the artists should dig ditches like everybody else. this is antonio brinko. millions of americans got to hear live music for the first time. this is the federal theater project. this is maxine albroro. it's been destroyed and one of my favorites done by helen bruten. it's to remind us, while i was looking at these projects, they employed 42 percent women. it's very unusual in the art world. and then of course, in san francisco, benny lafono. we had the first and the last of the new deal. coit tower is the first. it is i think, one of the best in the country. it shows san francisco's history and that of human civilization shown through the eyes of labor. these are things that happened in san francisco's history. lynchings.

to asian art. if you this yesterday, on saturday, it will be another freed a courtesy of target. secondly, we hosted the growing of asia and america awards ceremony. in partnership with the asian pacific fund. target has been a sponsor the last few years hand-held allows students to share their individual stories, and anyone who was there yesterday would be moved. it was amazing to hear their stories of growing up asia and in america. today, we had the opportunity to visit a couple of elementary schools. these are schools with a high student population and we donated four boats each student. all of which were written by an asian author. it was a great way to partner with schools to celebrate asian it heritage month and impress upon them the future of education. we're fortunate enough to bring one of the authors to the school, kristi yamaguchi. i recognize her as a gold medalist. the student recognized her as a champion from dancing with the stars. education is the heart of targets of living. target

it's my art studio. and we do things like art commissions. like we did an amazing commission at lax, a 58-monitor installation that shows people, this kind of fantasy of what could happen in an airport. it begins with people just walking, walking, walking, but then it starts and turns into this fantasy where people break up into dance, it becomes like a musical and people are dancing with each other. you could have a kind of la la palooza at an airport with all those people there. it could be a huge party, instead it is a huge bummer. everybody's scared, tired, upset, being slightly molested. anyway, that's what my studio did up to about 18 months ago. then the ipad came out and that really flipped me out. big part of my art i had abandoned because i couldn't find a way to distribute it. so a lot of my artwork was art on a screen. it's call it like an interactive painting or interactive movie that you would touch and something would happen like manipulating stars an drawing with stars, making music with bubbles, things like that. all of a sud
