joining me now is arthur c. brooksesident of the american enterprise institute and host of "the arthur show." i love podcast and i'll be a listener to that. i'm curious what you think about this strategy for the republicans to declare the war being over because of success and pivot to new policy solutions to those still in that situation? >> hi, dana. yeah, i saw that, too. the point they're trying to make is when you look at consumption, the level of cavalry deficits, poverty is easier to bear than in the 70s and 80s. the problem is the poverty rate has stayed the same. while poverty is easier to bear because we have better welfare programs or whatever, it's not easier to escape. you worked for george w. bush, a man i admire. he used to point out again and again, the point of the war on poverty is escaping poverty. it's earned success, dignity and the goal that we have to be looking for in america today. >> dana: so from a conservative standpoint when they make that argument and you at the american enterprise institut
