"today in the bay's" arturo santiago is live at that scene.reak. >> reporter: it is. while they were making that arrest t accident investigation team has been out here doing its work. take a look behind me. the road is going to be closed for the next couple hours at least as the accident investigation team continues to take measurements and gather evidence. the 40-year-old victim was a passenger in the car. he was pronounced dead at the scene. now the crash itself happened at around 2:00 this morning. the 18-year-old driver was trying to navigate a curve on pearl street. he lost control and crashed into the back of parked cars which were pushed into the back of more parked cars. the passenger was trapped inside the car. firefighters had to cut him out of the vehicle. police believe alcohol may have been a factor. >> after the victim was extracted out of the vehicle, officers found several cans of beer inside the vehicle. we'll check when our traffic enforcement unit gets here. they'll determine whether or not any are open containers or closed.

what happened out there, arturo? >> reporter: they switched from firefighting mode into investigating mode out here, john. officials are now working to identify the woman, as you said, and find out exactly how this fire started. firefighters responded just after 6 this morning. when they arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames. fire coming out of the front door, side doors and windows. they immediately took a defensive posture and worked to protect the homes next door. the next door neighbors were actually evacuated as a precaution. now, fire crews were able to put out the flames quickly and then enter the home and that's when they found the body of the victim. the fire is not considered to be suspicious but arson investigators are on the scene. now, neighbors say the woman who lived in the home was extremely well liked by everyone. >> very frank quill and, you know, it was a neat place to be, her backyard. she loved flowers. if you look at her space, i mean, she's got a little teeny space and it's like the su
