the fbi agents that were on the scene helping the anne arundel county police. it came back with no fingerprints. it came back with no hits. and so the question became, why is that? we're told that it appears that his fingerprints were altered in some way. perhaps he guyed them off, perhaps he put something on them so that when he was arrested, when he was taken into custody, police were not able to use his fingerprints to be able to identify him. so that's one of the troubles that police had. it appears that they have now been able to bridge that gap. they've now figured out a way to identify him. perhaps through his face. they have facial recognition technology. they can use that to match it against databases, state databases. so they do know how and who it is. at this point they're not saying whether he has provided any information. they have not determined what exactly brought him to this newspaper today, whether he had a beef with the newspaper, whether he knew anyone there whatsoever. we have no idea what brought him there today. >> and pretty incredible w

joining us now is steve schuh, county executive of anne arundel county, maryland, where annapolis is located. thank you very much for being with us, sir. i appreciate it. i know that you worked alongside so many of the people at "the capital gazette," and you worked alongside some of the victims here. talk to me about your feelings this morning. >> yes, "the capital gazette" is our local newspaper. that's where we go for local news, stories about children's athletics, but also global and national news. they are residents of our community, known to all of us. our hearts go out to those who have been injured and lost their lives and to their families. >> and our hearts go out to you as well, because as you said, they are part of your community and it's a loss for all of you there. you noted overnight, because you, of course, are the county executive and in touch with law enforcement, that the suspected shooter had not been cooperative at all. has that changed? >> that has not changed, to the best of my knowledge. he was not cooperative yesterday, throughout the night, nor this morning.
