arwa damon is following latest developments from iran. arwa, iran pushing back against president trump with a harsh statement. >> yes, they are. it really goes to also underscore the fact that perhaps, and this is not something that is just unique to iran, the position of the united states does not hold the same weight and value that it used to. now, this statement came out from the country's foreign ministry effectively calling president trump's tweet interventionist and cheap. it went on to say that the people of iran give no value or credibility to such opportunistic expressions by the government or the person of mr. trump. american officials, through their conduct, have not earned a place from which they can express mass sentiments as sympathies for the aware and engaged people of iran. that being said, as you were mentioning, there is both the government and religious establishment are acknowledging that the people do have a right to express their economic grievances. they say that they will be addressed. but then there are of course

for the latest, here is cnn's arwa damon. there have been large numbers of people taking to the streets throughout the palestinian territories. with that comes a growing toll of those who are wounded and those who are killed. in the gaza strip, there was one 29-year-old man who was shot in the scene of some of the more intense back and forth that took place between rioters and the israeli defense forces. a 19-year-old university student stabbed an israeli border policemen in the shoulder before he was shot and later died of his wounds. there is a sense that jt upcoming days and weeks ahead, things are going to become even more confrontational and there is a very intense conversation happening between the palestinian leadership, palestinian president mahmoud abbas, various different regional leaders as they try to figure out the best way forward and how to capitalize on this momentum that they believe they have, not necessarily talking about momentum in the streets, but on a global level. they urged other leaders to do so, as

cnn's arwa damon and ian lee are both in the west bank. war joins us from bethlehem. n in ramallah. arwa, let's start with you. aside from a few israeli soldiers that we've seen in the background from time to time in your shot, what is the mood there? are things quiet, and what is expected? >> reporter: we're expecting a demonstration to start here shortly in that direction. the demonstrators will be coming down this road. the demonstration was called for yesterday by all palestinian factions. it's meant to make a statement. and that statement is to express their desire, their demand that arab countries and, in fact, muslim countries across the world expel their u.s. ambassadors, of course in reaction to u.s. president trump's declaration that the u.s. would be recognizing jerusalem as the capital of israel. this has not only incensed the palestinian population here but really muslims across the world. there is this sense that by making that declaration, the u.s. has not only completely eliminated, eradicated the palestinian dream of also having east jerusalem as the c

. >> arwa damon joins us live from istanbul with reaction from iran. what are you hearing from the statement, arwa? >> well, the iranian government is really not putting much value on the u.s. president's words, calling them interventionist and cheap. effectively, the u.s. does not really have much of a moral leg to stand on. the statement goes on to say that the people of iran give no value or credibility to such opportunistic expressions by the government or the person of mr. trump. american officials through their conduct have not earned a place from which they can express masked sentiments as sympathies for the aware and engaged people of iran. now, that goes to a broader issue that america faces when it comes to its credibility across the entire region. that being said, the demonstrations that took place in iran began on thursday. they then really began spreading on friday. people initially coming out expressing their grievances with the economic situation. many had hoped with the nuclear deal and easing of sanctions that was meant to come along wi

arwa damon joins us. what do we know at this point? >> reporter: well, the attack took place at a cultural center where around 100 people were gathered inside a room or a hall. they were marking the russian invasion of afghanistan, and this suicide bomber managed to infiltrate the gathering and then detonated the explosives. this was then followed by two other smaller explosions. given the space where the attack took place, that presumably is one of the leading reasons why the casualty, the death and toll and that of those wounded is so high. isis has claimed responsibility at this stage. it's worth noting that the attacks in afghanistan, whether it's in the capital or elsewhere, whether it's against the civilian population or the afgh afghan security forces has really been on the rise since the attack in kabul over the summer that killed around 150 people. of course, what is especially devastating to the afghan population is not just the lost of live, the impact these attacks have on those wounded and their families, and it's also the
