we do not have a response as a city about that crisis. we have people losing well -- wealth. as the faults in foreclosures are happening, property values are going down. we do not have a response for that is -- as a city. in the meantime, we are making decisions that would provide greater wealth to people are already getting wealthy. investors, people who are investing in twitter and other companies, or commercial real estate buildings and interest that own those buildings in the mid-market area. that is a major concern of mine. i think of the haves and have- nots and the have mores and the have almost everything. the almost everything havers are getting more and more, and we are taping their way with decisions like this. i worry about being able to call at the increasing disparity in wealth if we approve things like this. do we lose our ability to call out the widening disparities of wealth by actually approving wider disparities in wealth in san francisco? that is a big concern of mine. 65% of the workers who work for twitter right now do not want to leave san francisco. the

the reason it's hard for sacramento is it's a capital city. if we, as a city have the majority of our government jobs and when california can't balance a budget and has to layoff people, it affects the whole state but as a capital city, when you start furloughing our workers, they don't come downtown and they don't shop at the shops. so there's a double whammy in terms of california and sacramento. the last spart strange. last year we got up and done legal fees and sathe we're going to come up with a proposition. proposition 22. it precludes and prohibits the state of california to take money from the city. that passed overwhelm glifment this year we thought we were going to benefit from it. the state said hmm, let's just eliminate redevelopment agencies now. so because they couldn't take money, because of this proposition, they decided to eliminate redevelopment which pavegly was a loophole she nan gans to take money from the city balance them. those are the things that make it difficult for us as mayors. >> in addition to mayors being blamed for thing

this young man here has decided to retire after 25 years as a city and county of san francisco employee, 23 and a half of which he spent at the port. i have to share a story about when john worked with dpw, he was the in house, for city hall, and he became the mayor's personal plumber by fixing the shower in his personal office. so he could jog -- the mayor, that is -- at launch. john worked his magic and fixed it for the good mayor -- i hope the good mayor still jogs. do you happen to know? anyway, that is how he got his start, and from there, he moved up to the port and work on an old tugboat -- i did not know we had a tugboat, so that was news to me -- until it was the commission. -- until it was decommissione d. he worked at the port's for maintenance yard, which is now with a giant ball park sits. john worked on the old divers and cut the steam systems operating so that the files could be driven down. remember how long -- how young he looks for some of this. it is pretty amazing. he was here when the embarcadero had a half-dozen railroad tracks and the sea wall lot still had cars o
