city college. so it is with that that i am presenting today a very important decision. in recognizing the importance of our city college to us as a city, i also want to make sure that we recognize as a family the serious challenges that are before the trustees and before the interim chancellor as we would care to meet them. there will be very difficult and important decision that will need to be made in order to address the recommendations that are set forth by the accreditation committee. there will also be a lot of good faith negotiation that will have to happen in order to protect our city college. but tough decisions and reforms are what city college needs at this time. and we must first protect and serve the students of city college and make sure they remain have our number one priority. but any improvement means change from the status quo. it will also mean decisions about reform, decisions reflecting strong leadership and good governance that will improve our city college system and protect this accreditation. to that end, i have given very careful consideration about who to appoint to fill this vacancy at such a critica

community, as a city. what happened when the 49ers won those super bowls year after year? that was a huge deal for our city and our community in san francisco. what happened with the world series this year when the giants won for the first time in over 50 years? incredible. everybody was celebrating. and that is a huge deal for our community in san francisco, but i think, economically, not only jobs in terms of construction of stadiums and what have you. economically, you know, for those people who do not believe or do not really fully appreciate what type of economic drivers the sporting events and teams are, go down to soma during a giants game. come to the marina when the blue angels fly in town. what it does to the local streets and bridges. come to district 3 and district two and districts 6 and 10 when the america's cup comes to town and see what type of influx of economic activity these events drive to us. i think that is something that is not talk about enough. both the community aspect, the intangi

people believe in it and the environmental challenges that come with that means that as a company, as a city and a country we have to work together to find the solutions to this. as we look into the future, we could say that the current model of the car industry needs to change. at the same time, we believe that individual mobility is what people desire. that does not mean -- that means they will use the car in a different way. here in san francisco, statistics are always something -- potentially, there are over 500,000 people looking for 450,000 parking spaces. this goes for most cities, about 30% of all of the traffic are people looking for parking places. imagine if you could take away some of that uncertainty, you could relieve a lot of the traffic that sits on our roads. with that, of course you reduce not only the congestion and the co2, you make the issue much more sustainable. we started to think about this over the last couple of years as to how we could provide some of the solutions. one thing that is for certain, there is no silver bullet. there is no one thing that a company or c

the only way to address the issue is to say, as a city, we're going to take this seriously and treat this as the law has stated. it is a civil rights law. we're going to invest in this and we're going to put the resources so that next year, regina does not come here and say i had 6000 pamphlets sent out and six people came into the office, they might have come in by accident. if we do not have the resources to fund the office of small business, we can do it through dbi. angus mccarthy is more than willing to work with you or anyone who is interested. he is the only person from the city who has come out and spoken to me without me going to them first. he asked me to come to speak at a dbi hearing. they are a department that raises its own funds, they may have resources to address this, we can put a line item into the budget for next year and that is something we can discuss but you will have to put the resources, have outreach field workers, have staff that can address this issue and so we have the resources available and give assistance as needed so we do not have this situation to oc

however, i speak as a -- an individual today. the cityhas reduced domestic violence by over 80% as a concerted effort through the policies of the city working through every branch of law enforcement and every representative of social services and the court. that also includes work by the sheriff's department. when you have a link that you cannot work with, that undermines the policy for the city. i also work as a -- an attorney as a regulatory enforcement attorney for the city. that also includes license fees. every employee has a code of conduct. the specific conflicts of interest may be specific to department, but in terms of licenses, we do remove for dui's and for domestic violence. the department of insurance and other agencies do not have that specificity. we all know what the common- sense definition of decency is. we hold the public trust. your decisions will impinge on whether or not an elected official has special treatment and does not have to conduct himself or herself -- [tone] with the related charges if that person is above

know the cultural benefit of not life on our city without entertaining and night life, it would be a completely different city. a lot of us might not like it as much. if you do not have that community building, that tool does not exist anymore. it is not just about that. it is about keeping this city diverse, and having young people that actually want to come here. i cannot tell you how many times i walk home up market street and see a line of young people waiting to get in to hear live music. even though i am an old fuddy- duddy now and i do not stay out as late as i used to, it is important to me to know that young people have things to do today. audrey asked the economic question of me almost immediately after taking office. it benefits us the truth about $55 million in tax revenue. nightlife is the only significant industry in this city that sometimes gets treated at times as it is a nuisance, a problem to be managed. and of course, we have to focus on making sure it is safe and that people are complying with the laws and that we are not having shooting. but when you get so focused on combating the negatives -- every industry has the nega
