already seeing it across south jersey as well as eastern pennsylvania. temperatures right now in the upper 20s. so it's cold enough in terms of blizzard conditions between 7:00 on saturday and 4:00 saturday afternoon. it will take time before the storm moves away from us even though it's moving in quickly. wind gusts will be higher between 50 and 60 miles per hour which will definitely result in power outages and will push a lot of water on shore in coastal areas causing the moderate to some cases major coastal flooding. the track is crucial. this is the back edge of the system here. all the way down atlantic a light snow rain mix and it's been snowing in washington d.c. 2 to 3 inches on the ground so far. should be in the city by midnight. since it's already snowing in portions of south jersey. in terms of areas north and west you're not going to see as much. you're not expecting high accumulations here. there's a lot more dry air that the system will run into. so across this area 2 to 6 inches of snow but in and around the city we increase the totals f

and extreme southern delaware, south jersey, but as we go farther to the north, the blue areas, six inchesus, purple 10 inches plus. there is some blue in extreme northern delaware and in philadelphia itself. especially northeast philly, northern suburbs have more and the most in the lehigh valley, berks county, upper bucks, upper montgomery 10-plus. yesterday 16-plus in parts of that area so things are improving. you can see this area of showers back to the west. came into our area today, this is pretty pathetic with a few snow flurries, not even reaching the ground. this is more impressive, a line of rain showers followed by snow showers after a cold front and that's going to be watching for tomorrow. so as we go through tonight, the temperatures go down into the 20s. and we see that refreezing for daybreak. then temperatures start to go up and it goes up plenty, so that even when we get some snow showers during the day, midday, early afternoon, it's way above freezing, melts or gets blown around with the strong winds. by the time it gets cold enough, it's all gone. so, not really antici

the area of the blizzard watch in the dark purple here, as you can see, through the philadelphia area, northern half of delaware, much of south jersey, with the exception of cape may county. the areas north and west that normally get hit the hardest have a winter storm watch. you're going to get significant snow, but probably not as much snow as the area philadelphia southward. there's the watch for sussex county, delaware, cape may county, new jersey, followed by rain and strong winds and the coastal flooding, of course. the storm in two pieces, one in the middle of the country, one in east texas, they are going to combine to produce this major storm. after 8:00 generally the snow starts, spreads south to north from delaware, that's when we get the heaviest now and winds increase, may see mixing towards the shore and wind increases to perhaps blizzard conditions then tapers off after 8:00 p.m. on saturday. how much snow are we expecting? meteorologist sheena parveen has more on that. >> we have increased some of the snow totals here because of the timing of the storm, some could be heavy wet snow leading to power outages. take a lo

as we head toward sunday. how much rain? what areas are going to get hit the hardest? models tend to agree the heaviest amounts of rain are going to be in delaware and south jersey and lowering amounts as you go away from the coastline. other models have even less rain for some of these northern and western areas, but this is mostly on friday night, a lot of it, when a lot of people are sleeping. partly cloudy, not as cold tonight, 34 for the low in philadelphia, 26 north and west. it's not very cold for this time of the year. this certainly isn't. the clouds thickening up. it's going to be unseasonably mild. if we get enough sunshine, it will be even warmer than this. rain comes in at night, not a whole lot of wind during the day. seven day forecast around 50 on saturday, any rain ends early in the day, the winds pick up in the afternoon, but it doesn't really get cold until sunday. we could see some snow flurries or a couple snow showers by sunday night as the weak system passes through. arctic cold front, because that sets us up for the arctic blast coming in along with mlk day. then another day just as cold on tuesday and pretty chilly week out there. >>> well, from boy

as we mentioned has been issued this includes southeastern pennsylvania, lower montgomery and bucks county, philadelphia a, delaware, eastern chester county, northern two counties of delaware and much of the interior south jersey as well. winter storm watch and winter storm warning posted to the further north and south. we have a blizzard warning in effect for the d.c., baltimore area where you see shaded in red. a all will of these winter weather warnings blanketing the mid-atlantic region from virginia back through kentucky. blizzard watch for us, also a coastal flood watch, that is because as this storm comes up the coast it is a classic nor'easter northeast wind piling what the's long the coast and in the mouth of the delaware bay. we will deal with major to moderate coastal flooding through all shore communities and anyone that lays on the bay side as well. also the delaware beaches. this is friday night into sunday morning. high tied the at day morning. also sunday morning looks like sunday morning high tied may be the ones of the greatest impact but by could experience major to moderate flooding. again without further ado our snow map has not change, since we issued it first last night. we did edge this

south jersey. notice amounts fall off a little bit as you head south and east of towns like dover and towards the shore, you will have problems with mixing. notice this pink area, this purple area, over 20 inches lurking close by. there may be areas that do overperform with this. i can see a few spots, especially in this dark blue that could end up with over 20 inches of snow. there are limiting factors that we'll talk about in just a moment that could bring down some of of those snowfall totals in at least parts of the area. let's talk about when the worst of the storm will be, tomorrow through tomorrow afternoon, tonight is not a picnic. tomorrow the first half of the day worst of it. blizzard conditions. bands of stow up to three inches in an hour. insane sfoefl rates. wind 40 to 50. blowing the snow around, you're not going to be able to see very far, causing that blizzard warning, my advice, if you're him right now, stay there and don't think about going out again until at least midday on sunday. ukee and jessica, we'll have more in a bit >> see you. in addition to the snow moving already in some

that will be moving up our direction, southern delaware and south jersey could see flurry action as that system makes its way up later today. cutting through the mid state here up into the lehigh valley. some snow showers possible. we're not looking for anything really measurable. it's quick moving. then we're expecting skies to clear for a period, overnight tonight into tomorrow. but again, just some clips of some flurries and snowflakes falling in the lehigh valley tomorrow, late in the day. as that system just moves through, this is off of the great lakes. so the fetch coming in off the great lakes, snow machine cranked up there. cold temperatures really are what we're looking for. cold air moving in. for today, we'll call it chilly, sun and clouds. 38 to 40 degrees for high temperatures across the region. can't rule out a passing flurry or two. the seven-day forecast shows us just how cold we're going to get come tomorrow. so 29 degrees for a high temperature tomorrow. 19 for our overnight low. we'll stay cold and dry through the rest of the work week, and then watching another syste
