asa hutchinson, outgoing arkansas governor, maybe an aspirin for the white house, kind enough to join us right now. your thoughts on this drama unfolding before you? >> i am encouraged there is some momentum for kevin mccarthy. the whole country needs to have this resolved because we need to have our congress function. we have incredible challenges we face that congress needs to address and they can't start that without this speakership being resolved. that movement is encouraging. i hope they stay in the session over the weekend until this is resolved. i don't think it would be wise to send them home. they've got to get it done this weekend. i hope they can be successful. i might add you mentioned the jobs report and the impact on the stock market but in arkansas we announced 300 new jobs, technology jobs, the economy is strengthening and i am delighted to see some of the numbers look good in the latest jobs report. neil: you mentioned the jobs report. the administration has been very keen about what is going on on the floor of the house. for those just tuning in, we could have this

one other interesting person hanging around the meeting is the likes of now former governor, asa hutchinson, who is openly mulling a run for the presidency, and i asked him why he was there, here for the rnc meeting, and he said he's making the case directly to these members, looking ahead toward their primary process and pleading with them to make the presidential primary process a fair one. that includes debates. that includes the delegate selection process here. and so we are talking about a realtime happening right now the republicans crafting what their presidential primary process will look like and whether, in the records of asa hutchinson, they're open to having a course correction. >> it's amazing just sitting here, we have had to with a straight face talk about the space laser congresswoman being vice president and the my pillow infomercial guy being the head of the rnc, these are real things out there. is there a sense there, a learning from what happened in 2022. we're hearing about kari lake, she still claims she won an election that she lost. is there any learning, any looking

asa hutchinson. mike pompeo.ly states and they're talking with the key people in these states and they're working to develop a grassroots. and they're also working to test the waters with regard to fund-raising numbers. and there's a big space out there for someone who has trump's policies without the tone and tenor. and that's the important thing. we need to look past just who's going to win the republican primary but who can actually win a general election. and that's what republicans are looking at. >> i thought it was very interesting, ron, that he doesn't appear to fear donald trump's wrath. and i'll just paraphrase it for nut interest of time. he said that donald trump came to new hampshire and frankly gave a very mundane speech. he stuck to his teleprompter. he stuck to his talking points. then he went away. he didn't bring that fire, that energy. and i think it was a little disappointing to some folks. and that's somebody who doesn't sound like he's afraid of blowback from donald trump. >> right. in fact,

why are the asa hutchinsons and the nikki haleys and all the other possible 2024 candidates not sayingnything? >> i mean, first of all, it's a lose-lose to touch this with a ten-foot pole. ron desantis, who actually originated out of the house freedom caucus way back when, he actually gave his second term sort of back to florida speech which sounded a lot like a campaign speech, which very much nodded at the dysfunction in washington. it's extremely important for politicians outside of washington to underscore that at any given moment all the time, because that's how you get to ride in and be the savior come election time. david, they like to say look at me, optimism the outsider. you don't want to go near this. there is no incentive to do that. even trump in a way i think is staying as far away from this as he can. >> yeah, i mean, the republican party is a mess right now on everyone's screens. i was advising a 2024 republican presidential candidate, i would say exactly what audie just said, don't touch this with a ten-foot pole. there is nothing to gain here for you. just be apart fr
