that's really feeding into the anger on the streets, but as ashar says, this has transformed.here is now a movement here which has leadership. there has been a new generation of activists getting involved and expanding the talking points and the issues that people here really feel are important. so, as to how it's going to unfold on the street, i think it's right that maybe that kind of visceral eruption of anger that we saw is going to be channelled in a different way. there might be a different kind of manifestation of that. there are issues here that mua much bigger than michael brown, the way the criminal justice operates in this part of missouri. you know, the court system and the small fines and tickets that have been used as a source of revenues for these municipali municipalities, this has become a bigger issue than the shooting of michael brown. >> lauri let me get your thoughts on this. what are your thoughts on the ways in which the community has changed since august. >> reporter: i think at a time community has changed a lot. you know, i sat down with the mayor ear

ashar quraishi has more from ferguson. >> all is quiet, as anticipation grows in the wake of a decision from the grand jury, residents, police and protesters are getting ready for what may come. business is on the main drag, and they look like they are preparing for a hurricane. even while they brace for the possibility of violence. some are trying to paint a positive picture. >> i just want this to be a happy scene. business as usual, still trying to protect ourselves. >> it's going to kill business. >> when can you take these downs. >> they didn't tell us when to take them down. we'll keep them up until they say it is safe. >> customers are afraid to come to ferguson. business is down 50% since before the shooting. he has no choice but to protect the shop. >> insurance companies are not going to cover any damage happening to the business. the community is breaking a grand jury decision. the prosecutor's office says it could come in mid to late november, and there's a sense of uneasiness. if darren wilson is not ibb dieted. some fear there could be a response more violent nan the days

it may be a race decided in a couple of days. >> ashar quraishi in iowa. thank you. i want to go to mike viqueira in washington d.c. there's a lot of talk about whether the president of the united states will have to change the way he deals with the united states senate if republicans win, and that looks more like they might. >> there's a conventional wisdom that is congoaling in the cap -- congoaling in the capital. it may be a good thing in terms of alleviating gridlock. a president will be forced to negotiate with republicans. a lot of people were skeptical. the president gave a speech a couple of months ago, a major speech before the u.n., and spoke of a pervasive unease, talking about international relations. that is reflected in the electorate, and an unease with the policies of president obama, or fatigue with president obama and the administration. if you look at a race in neighbouring maryland, it is a state where democrats enjoy a 2-1 advantage over registered voters. republicans, anthony brown, incumbent lieutenant governor to take over martin o'mallee is

ashar quraishi is live for us. abortion has been a key interest in the race there. >> that's right. of the discussion about abortion in iowa centers around joni ernst co-sponsoring a person hood amendment. her support reaffairs that life -- reaffirms that life begins at exception and her challenger argues extending it would ban abortion. some have seen it as a way for braley to capitalize on the importance of women voters in the race. he has maintained a significant lead among the voters in iowa. joni ernst maintained a lead amongst male voters. it's an issue that we are looking at across the country. between 2011 and 2013 there has been 200 restrictions passed by state legislators regarding abortion. things like restricting access to how late you can have an abortion, or requiring abortion doctors to having admitting privileges at nearby hospitals. it's a big issues, and colorado, tennessee, and others have tackled that question of when life begins, abortion is a big issue in the race tonight. >> thank you ashar quraishi. let's turn to the number one issue for the voters, the econo
