ashley morrison is here in new york with the latest on that. good morning, ashley. >> good morning, betty. most asian markets lost ground on continuing fears about the u.s. economy. hang sang dropped 1% and tokyo's nikkei was flat. >>> on wall street the market tries to get back on track today. on tuesday an early rally ran out of steam as stocks fell for the fifth day in a row. the dow lost 19 points while the nasdaq slipped one. >>> oil prices fell to nearly $98 a barrel ahead of the opec meeting in austria. most analysts think the 12 nation group will decide to increase crude production though some members are dead set against it. increased production would likely push gas prices lower which could take some pressure off the global economy. >>> ford is thinking big by thinking small. the automaker has announced plans to grow global sales by 50% by the year 2015 with sales of compact cars accounting for more than half. the company sees its biggest opportunities in asia and africa. ford was the only detroit automaker that did not need a governme

ashley morrison is here with all of that. good morning ashley. >> good morning to you betty. pretty quiet day for the asian markets. tokyo's nikkei gained a fraction and hong kong's hang sang lost about half of a percent. today on wall street we get the latest on inflation and stock industrial production. tuesday stocks had their best day of the month after better than expected retail numbers. the dow gained 123 points to close back above 12,000, while the nasdaq was up 39. the current housing crisis is now officially worse than that of the great depression. according to hiller price house, 33% since the market collapsed compared to 31% during the late 1920s and early '30s. home prices recently entered double dip territory. the crisis is not expected to ease until foreclosures do and that's not expected until next year at the earliest. >>> pandora is hoping to make sweet music on wall street. the internet radio company will make its stock market debut this morning. its initial public offering of stocks sold last night at $16 a share, twice as much as expected just a couple of

ashley morrison is here with more. good morning to you. >> a mixed day on asian markets with increased concern about the u.s. economy. tokyo's nikkei fell almost 1%. the hang seng edged up a fraction. today on wall street the dow jones opens below 12,000 for the first time since march. last week the blue chips got hit hard. the dow lost 1.5% while the nasdaq was down more than 3% and lost all of its gains for the year. that was the sixth down week in a row for the market, its longest losing streak since 2002. the s&p 500 had lost almost 7% since late april. if the market drops 10% or more that would signal a correction which some analysts believe we're already seeing. it was only a month and a half ago stocks hit their highest point in three years. >>> gas prices are following stocks down according to the lundberg survey the average price for a gallon of regular is now $3.71 a gallon, that is 27 cents less than a month ago. most analysts expect prices to keep going down, amid reports saudi arabia may soon increase crud
