ashley morrison is here in new york with that and more. ing, ashley. >> and good morning to you, anne-marie. well, last week's u.s. jobs report drove up asian markets. tokyo's nikkei gains half a percent while hong kong's hang seng remains unchanged. will the bulls keep running on wall street. investors will pay close attention to several reports out this week. the dow shot up 307 points to closed at an all-time high while the nasdaq went up 74 points. >>> some good news at the pump. gas prices are down. the average price is $3.70. that's down 5 cents from last week. it is also the first dip in prices since late december, but it's still higher than a month ago when a gallon went for $3.57. >>> google will reportedly pay $7 million to settle its so-called wi-spy case. the penalty will close a joint investigation by the attorneys general in about 30 states. they accuse the internet giant of using its company cars to scoop up personal data over wi-fi networks that were not password protected. >>> anger is growing in europe over sky-high execut

ashley morrison is here in new york with more. good morning. >>> good morning you to anne-marie. a bounce after china announced its budget. the nikkei hit the highest closing level in more than four years. hong kong's hang seng added a fraction. >>> investors are still bullish on wall street as federal spending cuts kick in. the dow rose 38 points monday for its highest close of the year. it's now only 40 points away from its all-time high. the nasdaq went up 12. >>> get ready to say good-bye to those familiar green and white hess gas stations. the company announced monday they are going to sell more than 1,300 stations in favor of getting into exploration and production. the changes come after a major hess shareholder accused the board of poor oversight. >>> and the white house says on monday consumers should be able to unlock their smartphones and tablets and use them on the network of their choice. the statement was made in response to an online petition that got over 100,000 signatures. the white house says they will work with the fcc to resolve that issue. anne marie? >> tha

ashley morrison has more on this. good morning. >> good morning to you.ets traded hire on chinese exports beating forecasts. tokyo's nikkei gained more than 2%, while hong kong's hang seng raise more than 1%. wall street investors will be looking for further signs of economic recovery when february jobless figures are released later this morning. improved weekly unemployment gains gave the dow a lift on thursday. the bluechips finished 33 points higher ending at a recod high for a third consecutive day while the nasdaq rose nine points. >>> the federal reserve bank says 17 of the 18 national banks are financially sound and would withstand a u.s. recession and global downturn. ally, the 18th bank, failed the stress test. it is the former financial arm of general motors. it said the fed's findings are fundamentally flawed and says the bank is well capitalized. >>> a separate fed study shows that u.s. household wealth is back to its pre-recession peak. the report shows consumers regained $16 trillion in wealth lost in the great recession. household wealth wa

with more on that let's check in with ashley morrison of cbsmoneywatch.com.y. good morning, everyone. some much better-than-expected news on the jobs front just released. the labor department says the economy added 236,000 jobs in february while the jobless rate dropped from 7.9% to 7.7%. that is the lowest level we have seen in four years. most economists were forecasting the unemployment rate to stay at 7.9% and only 160,000 jobs were added in february. >>> improved weekly unemployment claims yesterday gave the dow a lift, the blue chips finishing up 33 on thursday ending at a record high for a third day while the nasdaq rose 9. >>> and facebook gets a face- lift. the social media site is trying to address user complaints that its website is dull and cluttered. the redesign of its popular newsfeed will allow users to select material in more organized sections. so we'll have to see how that works out for them. a lot of people don't like change. >> we are giving it a thumbs down. we are just getting used to the new stuff now and they are changing it again. >>

with more on that is ashley morrison of cbsmoneywatch.com.orter: asian markets got a boost as well this morning from the dow's record high. tokyo's nikkei gained more than 2% while hong kong's hang seng added 1%. wall street opens this morning after a record-setting day. the dow climbed 125 points to finish at 14,253. that's 89 points higher than the previous record set back in october of 2007. the new high is more than double the rock bottom low of 6500 that the dow touched on back in march 2009. analysts say a big difference between october 2007 and now is the unemployment rate. back then it was 4.7%. now it's at 7.9%. companies have more cash that they are slow to hire -- but are slow to hire because they are still worried about the economy. a couple of reasons for the surge, record low interest rates and the federal reserve's bond buying program. >>> if you had enough to invest when the dow was at its lowest you're getting a nice return. $1,000 put in the market on march 2009 would now net slightly more than $2,400 today. can you say cha-
