ashley webster is there, he's live on the poland/ukraine border with the latest on this mounting everyreporter: yes. good evening to you, lauren. if there's any if good news, we have seen the flow of refugees pouring out of ukraine into poland slowing down in the last couple of days. we're about 60 miles north of the border area that most of the reporting has been done. it's a busy commercial crossing point here. we have seen refugees in cars come out sporadically today but certainly not at the rate that we saw at least maybe a week ago or so. just to reemphasize those numbers, 3.64 -- 3.674 million total so far have left ukraine. of those, more than 2.1 million have come here to poland. and there was some encouraging words, you mentioned 100,000 the united states will take, up to 100,000 ukraine every refugees, also $1 billion to aid to help poland and other countries who are taking in these refugees. and, well, he let it slip, probably he shouldn't have, but the president says he will, indeed, be coming to poland tomorrow. there's a good chance he'll be meeting with some refugees. ta

ashley webster is in poland.e military side. we've seen him greet and meet with some of the troops of the 82nd airborne division, chatting with them in the mess hall, having some pizza. i think the message here is a message of strength. we are about 60 miles from the ukrainian border, certainly not a border town. but when the u.s. president comes to southeast poland like this and talks to his troops, i think the message is clear to those on the other side of the border, don't even think about it if you want to come and step on nato territory. the second message, i think, is a show of support for poland, the refugee crisis which we've been following day after day, week after week, truly remarkable. let me give you the latest numbers, and then i'll tell you what the president is saying. from ukraine total, 3.72 million refugees. poland alone, 2.2 million. that's in just over 4 weeks, and we understand now anywhere from 1.2-1.3 million of those refugees are staying in poland, and that is the problem. president biden

ashley webster in poland.ug these humanitarian passageway, times when the russians make it very difficult for aid to come in. the president and coo of wicks joins us near teleavive. could you explain how you're helping folks out? >> yeah. so wicks has almost a thousand employees in ukraine, almost a sixth of our work force is based in ukraine, and ever since this crisis started even slightly before that we were working very hard trying to evacuate as many as we can outside of ukraine. happy to say that today out of those thousand or so about 400 are already outside of the country, and 90% are out of the danger zone. those still in ukraine, we managed to evacuate to the western part of ukraine where it's less dangerous. neil: have russians made things more difficult trying to get, you know, these supplies in? reports that they've cordoned off so-called humanitarian zones that were supposed to allow this kind of stuff to get in and, for ma matter -- that matter, ukrainians to get out, but that's gotten complicat

ashley webster now with the latest from there. ashley. reporter: yeah, good afternoon, neil.s these refugees come in and they are then moved through. we're talking about the cost of not just of you know, food and shelter but the the cost of transportation. the polish government now decided to put aside $1.7 billion to try to help offset some of those costs. when we talk about transportation, of course we talk about the price of gas. if you think it is expensive in the united states i spoke to the mayor of a local town. he said, oh, boy, don't talk to me about gas prices. take a listen. >> petrol prices are crazy now. nearly nearly two euro, compare to price one year ago, it was one euro. big price change for us. reporter: everybody talking about a price of gas today, we're looking at the high grade diesel, this is 7.75 polish slaudi. that is $10. convert that to a gallon, $7 a gallon. i fill up mercedes diesel van, half a tank will cost one hundred dollars. the average salary here is $700 u.s. a month. 100 for half a tank. when you think of cost of transporting refugees, you
