andrew just reported there, i'm joined on the phone by andrew herdman, the director general of asia pacific airlines. we just had a report about the fact that asia air was not allowed to fly this route on sunday. so how do you think perhaps that that occurred? >> that remains to be established. obviously, it as you trouble's troubling. it appears to be an administrative issue. this requirement for approvals is to do with air traffic rights not specifically related to operational safety or such matters. but it is important, and obviously it will need to be investigated. not just for this flight, but they'll be doing a wider investigation as i understand as was just reported. >> and why would they fly on a day? any reason for it? is it a money issue? just wanting to turn out more flights? fly on a day that they're not allowed to do so? >> caller: well airlines change their schedules all the time essentially trying to adjust to passenger demand. so they'll revise their schedules, typically. at least twice a year and often for individual routes in between those times. when you do revise the sch

now in the asia pacific region markets were pretty upbeat. the nikkei had its best close since december 29th finishing at 17,511. that snapped a three-week ling streak. sydney closed up 1.5% hitting a two-month high. the ecb stimulus has fuelled speculation for a rate cut in australia. shanghai erased all of its losses from monday's plunge and closed up a quarter percent. currencies now, the euro is extending losses against the dollar. right now we have the pair at 1.1232. the single currency has plunged to its lowest level in 11 years and four months. analysts say the currency traders are selling because the ecb's 60 billion euro program of asset purchases was larger than consensus. the common currency is also losing ground against the yen, briefly hitting a one-year low. we've got the pair right now at roughly 132.86. investors really keeping a close eye now on the outcome of the greek elections on sunday. >>> okay. that's going to wrap it up for biz tonight. let's get a check of the markets. >>> snow in the mountains of south asia has inte

turning to the asia pacific region in tokyo the benchmark nikkei index closed up 1.7% 17,768. market players are betting on good news and earnings reports here. they're expecting japanese exporters to benefit from the weaker yen, and importers to reap a windfall from the slide in oil prices. well, in terms of other markets in sydney the benchmark index there was up more than 0.8% 5,547. investors pretty much brushing off initial fears that the leftist victory in greece would produce turmoil in the eurozone. shanghai's composite index was down 0.9%. the hang seng losing 0.4%. analysts say both of them were dragged down by financial and property shares. they say investors are concerned about the effects of the cooling chinese economy on profits. well in terms of currencies traders have been buying back the euro against the dollar. the pair now at roughly 1.1276. investors have their eyes on the outcome of the u.s. fed's first policy meeting of the year for any clues on the timing of a rate hike. meanwhile the dollar is in a pretty narrow range against the yen at roughly 118.07.

i really want to thank asia pacific island outreach, san francisco against rape, la casa, the da's office, 911, dem and office of citizen's complaints which we couldn't do this work without. it's just been a pleasure. i think this is my fourth or fifth year at the table and it's an honor to be here. we still have more work to do. when i compared the stats that we're starting to see from the police department on all crimes and i compared them to what the community is receiving just on violence against women crimes, right, and those are contacts in the community with advocates and attorneys, we have over 4,000, right, and so roughly the police department through dem has about 3,000. and that's all crimes. so it seems to be that there's more to be done on collecting stats. i think there's probably more contact than this. because if we're getting 4,000 in the community just on violence against women you guys are getting probably more and just anything we can do to work together to collect those stats, i know dem has put a lot in place to help that and also i think that's bilingual officer con

. >> markets trading in the asia-pacific, and all eyes are on europe.utcome of the election is weighing on the euro. nikkei, .8% down. your seeing fractional selloff in south korea. about .5% down. n,t's bring in tim condo joining us with more on the markets. let's talk a little bit about what is happening in europe. we do not often see it blow through here in asia. but it is now. what is the sentiment playing out amongst investors? in a word, it is greek exit. looksa's victory like they will form a government, even if it is not a coalition government. raises the possibility that they will exit the eurozone. and that is a negative. euro istion of the feeding through into sentiment in this part of the world. i think it is a small risk, but risk that people have to confront in the aftermath of the election outcome. falloutinly, we saw the de-pegged from the euro. it apparently really impacted south korean corporate's when it came to their exposure to the franc. are there things like that in asia, where people are reassessing their exposure to risk in euro
