certainly as an asian american, asian pacific islander, i'm the executive director of [speaker not understood] located in japantown [speaker not understood] some call it lower pacific heights depending what part of district 5 that you're part of. it's really important and i'm delighted that we have an opportunity to bring the asian american perspective, pacific islanders. i plan to be here more than once from this point forward. we are one of the largest populations in san francisco. even though there is some recovery to economy, i'm always about job training, jobs, job training, jobs for folks of color. oftentimes green environment, they're new to us and that term and also in those kind of semantics. what i'm trying to say is even though we're in different neighborhoods, chinatown japantown, the fillmore, it's real important because environment doesn't have neighborhood kinds of territory. we all breathe the same air. we drink the same water. we worry about the same toxins. so, it's really important for us to be able to be part of that. asian americans in my community, i'm a senior director

we are an active member of the south asian association for regional cooperation. we have expanded our role within the economic corporation organization and the asian regional cooperation. we have become, happily for us, observers of shanghai cooperation organization with an effort to become a full member of this good and strong organization. in addition to the support of our regional and international partners, we have initiated the heart of asia [indiscernible] in order to build trust and partnership within our region. in the first meeting of this organization in china will be held next year here. excellencies, we all know that terrorism not only inflicts great society -- suffering in our societies but decelerates economic progress and development. the recent terrorist attacks in pakistan and nairobi underscored the graphics scope of terrorist networks, whereby no country is immune to their madness and violence. today, i invite you all to work towards an eurasian partnership to confront extremism and terrorism with a shared determination to destroy the networks,

i'm very proud that the asian and pacific islander community based organizations from the asian law caucus which is now a part of a broader network of the asian american justice center and many others that [speaker not understood] from formerly [speaker not understood] pilo and many others here, japanese americans citizen league and the [speaker not understood], asian pacific labor alliance, and the south asian american meeting together, the salvation community, many others are speaking up in a strong voice also for due process for all. on constitution day, i think it's important as others said, that we recognize that due process and the 14th and fifth amendments to the constitution protect everyone's universal rights against government abuse and arbitrary denial of liberty. and as we stand up hopefully to support the due process for all ordinance, put forward by supervisor avalos and 7 others of us and 8-person super majority, i hope that we all recognize that it's not due process for some, but due process for all as supervisor campos mentioned. i also wanted to say that this coalition th

the asian caucus, asian pacific islander outreach, catholic charities cyo, international institute of the bay area, jewish family and children services, [speaker not understood] community resource center. as well as the african advocacy network, the arab resource organizing center, myob which is the [speaker not understood], the southeast asian community center, [speaker not understood] media, of course san francisco immigrant rights commission. well, i've often said in many speeches that our immigrant population is important. well, over a third of our population are immigrants and we acknowledge that. but i don't just want to say it as an announcement. everybody knows that. what we want is full participation. we want people to not be afraid or not be meeting as many barriers as they are today, from activating themselves in full participation. and i do want to have people of all languages and all heritages telling us how they want our parks to be managed, how they want community safety, how they want transportation to be had, all these things everybody else gets to do, and they weigh

we have 2 asian woman officers and male officer we have 26 asian and 5 african-american and 3 latino. now seniority we have 28 percent of our staff has left in 20 years and from 20 to thirty years of service is majority it's about 348 percent and 20 percent of our staff has thirty years and more. we have 9 officers of thirty years ever more and this officer james had 40 years and his daughter will graduate from the police academy this friday to continue on the legacy. central station is returned by the captain yours truly i have 5 officers. i have a civilian clerk and a civilian maintenance officer. we have a street crimes officer 1 sergeant and 5 officers. our can day watch patrol has two lieutenants one lieutenant is on and one off work. we have 3 p.s. a's their police service i'd say their civilians. our night watch 53 officers and 2 p.s. a. the night watch starts at 6 clock at night and the midnight get off after 10 hour shifts. we have an investigative team headed by one lieutenant two sergeant's and two inspectors 3e they are the detectives so the speak. we have 7 of the top 10

we have a new wall to recognize the special contribution that asians and asian americans have made to this part of the waterfront and the city. as was mentioned, 9 the waterfront was the place asian immigration came to the united states and the california gold rush certainly brought a steady influx of asian american laborers who helped to build the infrastructure of this country, including our railroads. on june 23rd, 1877, a huge mob attacked chinese businesses here and headed for the local symbol of chinese immigration, the pacific mall wharf where we stand today. they tried to burn the beer, but failed. i think it's important that we recognize and remember our history because as we move forward, as we celebrate our victories, our progress, it's really important to remember those that came before us and the history that was here today. but most importantly, i'm here to celebrate this open space, will be an incredibly important addition and resource for our families, our kids, our seniors who want to encourage to continue to stay here in san francisco and be a part of this thriving,

this is asian american justice asian law caucus. [ applause ] >> good evening, my name is chris. i'm the codirector of asian american justice. i'm honored to receive an award and want to congratulate our fellow awardees. 50 years ago when our advocates marched on washington they listed demands and one was for federal minimum wage. that minimum wage would be just over $15. however that is just today $7. we can see the economic justice and for equality in the workplace are unfulfilled. as asian american justice, we see the bravery of so many workers, from all backgrounds to come forward to fight for their workplace rights, to fight for minimum wage, to be paid over time and be granted meal and rest breaks. i'm proud to say that over the last several years our organization has recovered $1.5 million in under wages for our workers. i want to acknowledge one of my colleagues amy bond who is in the audience. she meets with workers everyday to inform them of their rights and to bring wage claims before the city an before the state to fight for workers. the 50th anniversary of the march
