i think growing up as an asian american student, i didn't often see other asian americans represented in the non-profit sector, in the political sector and in public policy in general. i feel like being able to have all of these role models and in turn being able to kind of help my community to become more civically engaged through voter registration under the mental health project, i really just learned how important it is to not only help my community but also understand the local issues. >> you knew how you wanted to help the community. you saw some specific issues. how important is it to have role model s models? >> speaking from my personal experience, growing up, i never thought there was ever going to be a place for me in politics, in the non-profit sector. i didn't see people who looked like me. i think it's not that i ruled these careers out, but it was more because i didn't see people who looked like me in these kind of fields, i internalized the idea that these sec totors were open to me. >> how do you plan to apply it? >> after having registered voters -- predominantly asi
