[ laughter ] >> that's something as an introduction here and it's something i do at school here. i always start off with something that is funny, but i have to say that teaching is not a job. it's an adventure. besides every successful man, there is a great woman. and that's my wife, lynn. [ applause ] and i have to say the other side london breed. she was my asb vice-president 1992. i know, don't tell them, but she was great there. and i really appreciate principal mr. black shear to be here and also i have some of my associate student body officers here and i really do want to recognize norman yee because he graded from galileo and he's done a lot for our school here. that's something i want to pass off an i started student teaching at galileo about 1970. that's 43 years. everyone says

because asian pacific americans have made a large contribution in this country in this state and of course in this city. and at all levels of government, business, and society, the product of all of the work of our immigrant father and mothers are evidenced by the people, standing in this room, the various elected officials. the company representatives who have strived and made their way up in their respective positions and all around us in our daily lives. >> this month is to celebrate all of those particular achievements and more importantly from craft's perspective and all of the programs that it does with the community and the employees is the opportunity to be able to show our future generations of asian pacific americans, the impact that they too can make as they are in school, in the arts, in government, and you are at craft foods, so, so pleased and so, so privileged to be able to celebrate this very special occasion and we look forward to being a part of this month. thank you, claudine. >> thank you. this is my pleasure to be here this afternoon. to share with you tho celebrating diversity and

asian pacific heritage month. i have some sad news to deliver this afternoon. a very personal friend, a very fine city folks, business owner in memory of tony keng. where it all began and in the beginning. many of you are aware that advertising was established back in 1990. tony king was ahead of his time even before the u.s. census of 1990 that informed us about americanation demographics in collaboration with the founders opened the advertising agency partnering with companies to target the asian american consumers who would meet for hours and conduct business in hotel lob easy -- lobbies across the city. corporate america was about to talk to these firms and think about their mainstream background. jay was out here in san francisco and it was the first client the help of -- we basically started to work with this client with tony. tony also opened a successful chain in the sandwich shops in the financial district. tony was the original founder of the asian business league of san francisco when he coined with the group of the business seminars and programs and honoring many asian american business le

asian american instruments. there were a couple of really eclectic activist going around. yam zachey who i used to see at city lights bookstore and i saw posters posted on the streets for the asian american jazz festival and my honoree was one of the founders. i'm honoring mark -- zoo who is an accurate or of many careers of the asian jazz festival and who i met and inspired by him and other leaders of this movement. i would like to ask mark and partner of creativity in 34 years brenda wong to come forward. there is a really good documentary on mark izu called don't lose your soul. mark izu has dedicated his life to nurturing the chinese jazz performance to others like frances wong also honored by the asian festival earlier but mark has been there from the very beginning to the present and always supported other artist and he's the driving force behind the asian american jazz festival. it serves as the genesis for other artist movement in many ways. george sam's was the trumpeter and anthony brown and other pioneers. united front was unique because it was the record label and were you supporting other locals
