that's what an faa study determined just months after the asiana crash landing at sfo. us live from our washington, d.c. newsroom to explain the findings. >> reporter: the wall street journal is reporting on this faa study. it's not been released yet to the public. the study determined pilots can rely too much on automated systems and may be reluctant to intervene. the wall street says a number of crashes around the world are blamed on pilots losing control because of poor situational awareness. and that's suspected as a key factor in the botched landing of an asiana flight in sfo in july. that plane was traveling too slowly. the ntsb said the pilots did not respond quickly enough to automatic warnings in the cockpit. i reached out to the faa. so far i've not heard back. other findings from the 277- page report, i'm working on that for you and we'll have the details after 8:30. live in washington, kyla campbell, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. >>> san francisco police are investigating a hit-and-run involving a bicyclist. this happened at 7:00 last night near the int

airport released preliminary findings today from a review of the emergency response to july's crash of asiana airlines crash. three people were killed the airport commissioned the review. and auditor found the airport about d.a good job but called for better communication between personnel and public. the emergency alert system for staff failed and web site crashed the airport didn't do enough to keep restaurants open for stranded passengers and called on working with local hotels to deal with price gouging. the findings did not match in the death of a passenger run over by a fire truck in moments after that crash. >> one person is in custody and police are still searching for another man after an armed robbery and a hostage standoff today. just after 11:00 this morning police responded to a report of an armed robbery on 83 ready avenue. both suspects took off. one ran into an apartment building where he held a hostage at gun point before running away, again. police are still searching for the second suspect. >> happening now, thousands of uc workers are taking part in a one-day strike this,

they're linking the problem to the incidents like the asiana crash in san francisco in july and other washington with this story. hi, doug. >> reporter: hi, mattie ann. the faa administrator is announcing changes to this announced october 5th. he is announcing as we speak. the changes are five years in the making and they stem from hard lessons learned from several recent crashes most recent, the kogen air flight 3407 in 2009. that plane was descending into buffalo on autopilot in icing conditions, when the pilot who was young and inexperienced and fatigued from overwork and lack of rest, disengaged autopilot and took control himself. the stick shaker which warned impending stall but the pilot reacted pulling aircraft up, slowing sped instead of pushing down which he should have done. the plane winged over plummeted to the ground killing all aboard. there is growing concern increased automation may less on pilot effectiveness in rare emergency circumstances like that. new training for crosswind takeoffs and landings and better runway safety rules as well. the faa says that air carrier
