let's look at the chart of the day. this was the tell of the markets over the past three days, and that is the dollar. you know, at least for today i remember talking to bob pisani and as we were speaking the dollar was giving up some of its strength and we were seeing at that moment the markets turned. >> we were sort of the dollar is the death star in our shop because it kills emerging markets and kills commodities and it is definitely a leader and it is what happened today. intraday the dollar after the non-farm payroll disappointment spiked higher and intraday when we started to work and get to the positive trend pete's talking about and financials rallied, it weakened 1 per. if you look at the dxy, it started to strengthen into the close. i pointed out 77.50 on the dxy. for people playing that at home you can do that with the uup, which is an etf which is essentially that same basket. if we break through that on the up side i think the dollar's going to be tough to stop in the short run but i don't see anything her

humidity at 50%. our winds out of the south at 9 miles per hour. but still, a cooler than average day for us. 74 degrees now the average. look at one of the cool spots this morning. this is out west, western maryland. frostberg, maryland, low temperature 39 degrees. oakland, maryland, dipped down to 35 degrees this morning. another cool spot. 43 degrees in hay market. you're likely to dip down to about 42, 43. so temperatures not quite as chilly during the overnight period. and look at boston at 45. 44 in caribou. they've had quite a few cool mornings. i'll tell you in a few minutes how that is affecting some of the fall color. here's what's going on across the area. we've got high pressure that's moving east. winds tonight are going to be calm. as that high moves further east tomorrow, clouds will be on the increase. we're talking about a weather system moving in for friday night and saturday morning. right now in areas out west around joplin, arod joplin, missouri, tulsa, areas of oklahoma, some severe storms until 8:00, there is a severe thunder

it's heavy at times. we see the yellows and reds popping up on the radar, that's an indication of extremely heavy rain right now. that's right around eastern kansas through missouri, stretching in towards illinois and in towards indiana and now edging towards ohio. so it's all spreading to the northeast at a slow clip. and since it's moving so slowly, you see tremendous amounts of rainfall continue to pile up. rain out of amarillo has been basically loosening up a bit. then it picks up in intensity around kansas city and down to the south. more heavy rain down i-70. you can see the flashing lightning going on here. that particular rain squall, that thunderstorm squall line has been here and just training due eastward over the last few hours. lots of rain right there. so flash flood watches, warnings. they're all posted around that region. look at the rain shield extending into indianapolis. pull the picture out, get a bigger picture. headed towards chicago later to day. lighter showers. the rain eventuall

we've got 61 at frericksburg. 54 at baltimore and 48 degrees at frederick. and overall skies are expected to stay fairly clear tonight. a ridge of high pressure in control. we have a few high level clouds here streaming in but areas to the far west and northwest over the potomac highlands and along the then then valley area -- -- the shenandoah valley area could see some showers. in the rockies one to three inches of snowfall for them. to the deep south georgia once again dealing with flood situations with plenty of heavy rainfall. we on the other hand will stay very dry. that ridge of high pressure is going to bring us into some sunshine for tomorrow. we've got a series of frontal systems to deal with, though, as we move through into the week. tuesday night into wednesday expect to see some rainfall as a result of a warm front lifting in from the south and another frontal system heading in from areas of the west. and then by the end of the week we'll be dealing with another frontal system. in the meantime ridge of high pressure is what we're talking about.

let's take a look at what we're looking at on the incidentsies themselves. here we've seen markets turning lower. so we've gone from a slightly positive market story to a little bit of negativity just creeping in. dollar cross rates briefly glancing at them with cable now lower by small 0.1%. the dollar holding up gains against the yen. julia, in the u.s., what type of a session are we moving towards? >> well, we are going to take a look at the futures right now and see how the markets are trading. we have to remember that the third quarter, which finished yesterday, the dow had its best quarter since 1998. now it looks like we could see a little bit of profit taking as the market futures are heading lower. the dow is off by about 24 points from fair value. nasdaq is down by nearly 9 from fair value. s&p 500 pointing to a lower open. we have a lot of information for the markets to digest today. manufacturing data, personal income and spending. pending home sales, construction spending. this could be a long list and we'll see how the market deals with that da
