both officers at shock trauma. kerry cavanaugh is at police headquarters with the latest on this. kerry? >> police tell us what should have been a routine traffic stop took a bad turn just after midnight. police pulled over a car around 12:30 this morning. police say the driver pulled over. as the officers approached, all of a sudden, he pulled a gun and started firing. one officer was hit in the right hand, the other was struck in the face. despite their injuries, those officers were able to return fire and police say they killed the suspect on the scene. those police officers were rushed to shock trauma. one was shot in the hand, the other was shot in the face. we are told both were scheduled to undergo surgery at shock trauma which will be performed by dr. andrew pol hfl -- pollack. both officers are listed in serious but stable condition. within an hour the police commissioner is expected to appear here and give us more information on why those officers were stopping the car in the first place, who the suspect was involved in all of this who was killed by those officers. we wi
