athena jones joins us now live from ventura county.t's a staging area there where he is where fire teams are battling that fire. what are conditions like there today? >> reporter: good morning, victor. well, right now the winds are not very strong and that is the good news. of course we have been talking about a situation of fuel. dry conditions, a lot of kindling that makes trees and brush into kindling and extreme winds. that is what has allowed many of these fires to grow so quickly. but today at least so far the wind has died down. firefighters say they have to be concerned not just about wind speeds but also winds changing direction. but the good news here today is they expect a breeze off of the sea that will help with humidity levels. again, the humidity here is extremely low, in the single digits in terms of relative humidity and that has been one of the challenges in this area. as of last night, this fire which is just over the ridge here was 0% concontained. you can see burned-out parts of the hill, ash in the air at times. f

athena joins is joining us now. what can you tell us about how this fire is being fought?rom a mostly agricultural area. about 50 miles north of los angeles. we're in an area that had been used as a staging run for firefighters fighting this day and night. they were refilling their tanks going back up. you can see behind me one of the hillsides that hand been burned, scorched black there. we know they made some progress. as of last night there was only 6% containment. now it is 20% contained and that has been helped by the changing weather conditions as you mentioned. over night there was sbreezs coming in from the sea that helped with the extremely low humidity levels. that is still a concern here. the fire behavior overnight l s overnight lessenned a bit. we can look at how dry the brush and the leaves are, and that is a major factor. you have high winds that can pick up the embers, but incredibly e cried conditions. because of these continuing dry conditions and now firefighters have been working hard to protect not only people and homes, but also agriculture. we're in

as athena jones reports, things are looking up. >> reporter: hi there. we are 50 miles north of los angeles where the maria fire broke out thursday night. good news is favorable conditions today have allowed firefighters progress in putting out this fire. you can see the work involved in making sure that fire stays out. you can see in the distance they are spraying. you can see, as we look around, the trees are partially burned or at least charred. we are in the middle of an agricultural area. avocado orchards on one side, citrus on the other. this is what firefighters have been working to protect, petroleum equipment. we have 1300 firefighters who have been out fighting this fire, trying to make sure they get it under control. we have news on a possible cause of the maria fire. southern california edison informed regulators that on thursday night there was a high-voltage line, 16,000 volts near where the maria fire began. they had just begun to reenergize that lean about 13 minutes before the fire started. so we don't know for sure if that was the cause
