tonight it is closed from highway 101 to atherton avenue. >> reporter: julie, if you take a look behind me, you can still see that high water here on highway 37. those three abandons vehicles, still out here, stranded by it that high water. the chp tells me it was the proverbial perfect storm that shut down highway 37. normally busy, flood waters have left it empty. from sky fox the damage is clear. the problem started with a report of water on the roadway. >> flooding started on the westbound side, and has now crept across. >> reporter: the chp shut it down between 101 -- statement, the king tide pushed water up from the san pablo bay. now, with more rain predicted, this flood water isn't going anywhere, anytime soon. >> there's nowhere for this water to go that's falling from the sky right now. our ground is saturated. it's not going to take much, especially tonight and tomorrow. >> reporter: 37 shut down, drivers are detouring to nearby atherton road. the two lane road packed with traffic usually carried on a four lane highway. mark alvarez says the last four days, he's seen one call

since yesterday, 37 has been closed between 101 and atherton avenue. chp is moving traffic off at atherton avenue to give you a direct way to highway 101. so that's the good news there. no delays in the area. not too many cars out there. if you are heading there, drive slowly because that flooding is pretty heavy. moving over to the marin county commute from the golden gate bridge into san francisco, 580 in san rafael to the golden gate toll plaza will take you about 14 minutes. and if you are traveling on the nimitz freeway this morning listen up, you have a traffic alert here since 1 a.m. northbound 880. that off-ramp to mission boulevard is closed after a crash involving a truck carrying pool chemicals. so it is a hazmat situation. and chp is saying there is no estimated time of re-opening just yet but it will definitely take them a while. so if mission boulevard is part of your commute, take auto mall parkway instead. moving to the altamont pass commute here coming out of tracy and moving at about 55 miles per hour. and then down to 30 at north fly
