joining us with the latest on the global sales effort senior correspondent atika shubert. reporter: christine, this is changing the landscape and russia. russia hoping to seal a number of possible weapons deal with iran in the future. that is also something that really unnerves neighbors in the region. saudi arabia asked for more military help. president obama promising more missile defense with saudi arabia as it deal was a powerful rival in iran. the other ally in the region is israel. israel right now is concerned about the loopholes in the agreement. we had a chance to speak to the spokesperson of the prime minister. he confirmed that president obama had a conversation with prime minister benjamin netanyahu. he would not say exactly what the details were as reported in the new york times, but he also said the focus right now is on the fact that iran can still with all of the limitations in the deal develop a nuclear weapon within 10 to 15 years. the effect as iran opens up as sanctions are lifted and if it supplies more arms and weapons to hezbollah and hamas. it reall

cnn's atika shubert is live at the talks. good morning, atika. >> reporter: good morning, john. the pressure is on. there are back-to-back meetings. foreign ministers are here working around the clock to make the deadline. at the same time deputies from the iaea are in iran hoping to push forward. will they make the deadline? it is important for the u.s. they need an agreement before congress before july 9th. they have 30 days to go over it before summer recess. otherwise, 60 days before approval. the obama administration doesn't want it to take up as much time. having said all that secretary kerry has faced criticism for rushing the deal. particularly from senator bob corcoran. senator kerry made it clear. he said we will not shave away to just an agreement. the u.s. still willing to walk - away. >> a lot more in the next 24 hours. atika shubert, thanks. >>> the obama administration focusing on isis today. president set to be brief by defense secretary ash carter and joint chiefs of staff. carter is meeting with the french defense minister to talk about the battle against isis.

let's go live to the ground and get the latest from cnn's atika shubert who is there. atika? >> reporter: we have seen foreign ministers arriving. foreign minister lavrov walked in. the pressure is on to try to make the deadline. most of the technical issues to prevent iran from developing nuclear weapons have been hammered out in previous talks. this time it's the more political issues that are really trying to nail down. for example, the issue of iaea inspectors. what access will they have? the u.s. wanted anytime, anywhere inspections. iran says that is an absolute red line for them. what kind of access will they get? to which sites? these are the details that need to be decided. the foreign ministers have to make the hard choices quickly if they want to get agreement this week. the deadline is tomorrow. it is possible perhaps, with a little bit of leeway. they need it in by july 9th to get congress approval before the august recess. >> a real deadline in the near future. atika shubert, thanks. >>> happening today. president obama will be briefed on the fight against islam

joining us now with the latest on the global sales effort correspondent atika shubert. reporter: you mentioned the new york times report. we spoken to the israeli prime minister spokesperson. he will not give us specific comments but he did say the conversation took place with benjamin netanyahu and barack obama. he said israel right now is more focused on the loopholes in the deal. specifically that even with the limitations that iran could develop a nuclear weapon within 10 to 15 years. this is a deep red line for israel. it is very concerning with the lifting of sanctions, we could see millions of dollars pumped into iran. israel's concern is it will go to iran's allies like hezbollah. these are the existential threats, as it were, that it is focused on. for other neighbors, it is slightly different. saudi arabia is very concerned about missile defense from its primary rival. iran. also the conflicts in syria and yemen. which is opposed to from iran. there's a lot of concern in the region. the u.s. has to sell the deal to allies to make sure they feel secure enough.

atika shubert has the story. >> reporter: "the sun" newspaper has sparked an uproar in britain.-old elizabeth, the future queen, giving the nazi salute. tabloid's front page shows elizabeth alongside her mother her 3-year-old sister and the prince of wales with the headline "their royal heilnesses." the still images were taken from a short black and white film in scotland in 1933 when adolph hitler was rising to power in germany. the 17-second video posted online shows edward apparently encouraging his young nieces and sister-in-law to perform the salute before himself joining them. royal biographer calls the story sensationalist. >> what is was doing is showing people frolicking along on the lawn and unfortunately "the sun" decided to freeze the frame to make it look as bad as possible and my reaction was i think the whole thing was rather pointless but also very unfair. >> reporter: "the sun" responded with a written story justifying its decision to show the image. "these images have laid hidden for 82 years. we publish them today knowing they do not reflect badly on the queen

atika shubert says that some say a late deal would be better than no deal. >> reporter: for the first talks, foreign ministers have met face to face in the same room as they try to hammer out a nuclear deal in the coming hours, and it seems possibly in the next few days as you can see from the video that's come from that meeting, the iranian delegation on one side of the table, the u.s. and its partners on the other. all cards are now on the table. but how do they seal a deal in time. july 7 was supposed to be the deadline for this. but as one senior iranian official told the press earlier today, quote, we won't sacrifice a good deal to meet a deadline. in our view it is an artificial deadline. but even if there is an extension, he also made clear that staying a few days in vienna is better than going home and starting anew. now many of the thorniest technical issues have already been resolved. but it is the foreign ministers who are required to make those high-level difficult political decisions. and it could be very well that some of them may have to go home to their respective capi
