atika shubert is right outside of that hospital in nice, and what can you tell us about the victi victims, atika? >> yeah, we are near the hospital that is the one closest to the scene of the attack, and this is the road where the truck began the attack, and that is the long veil hospital over there, the blue glass building. what we have been learning from the doctors is that they have rushed in expecting dozens of injured to be brought in, but they were shocked at how many of the injured were children. there are still 28 children being treated inside of that hospital. and we now know that five, and we earlier heard three from one do doctor, but we have confirmed that five are in very soarous condition, critical care. one of them has still been unidentify unidentified a 10-year-old boy, and they can't find his parents which is another problem from the doctors that in addition to the massive blunt trauma injuries, they have been trying to simply identify the kids, because they became separated from their parents in the chaos. most of the families have been reunited, but there is still that

cnn's atika shubert joining us from the scene. us more, atika. >> carol, police have just allowed us into the crime scene. this is quite extraordinary because they haven't quite cleaned it up. take a look at this. it gives you a sense of what was happening. i can see blood stains. this chair in particular seems to be twisted out and its black blown out, also some blood here, and i believe this may be where the main force of the explosion was. there's a lot of press walking in and out here. you can see the chalk outline here used by police to draw where the body of the attacker was found. he was the only one killed in the attack but more than a dozen others were injured. to give you a sense of the force of the explosion, it wasn't that big, but you can see a crack in a number of cases, also cracked through here. what we know from police is that he packed explosives into his bag, but he also packed metal bolts, ball bearings and screws to cause maximum damage and that's what it looks like came right hue there. more than a dozen peop
