jack had several plans cancel out on him from atlanta, but he got a plane at 2:00 this morning from atlanta and made it here because he wanted to be here with all of you. jack is a historian and journalist at lsu in the public affairs and journalism department at lsu. right, jack? also, i should say he is a very good duck hunter. he and i have hunted ducks down in louisiana together. [ applause ] and so i assured him there would be more duck hunts to come because of the heroic efforts he made in getting here this afternoon. jack has had an interesting career. various newspapers, abc radio, npr. i'm sure all of you have heard the marketplace program on npr. jack participated in that and was a participant quite a bit. he was a political appointee at the agency for international development in the state department. he was a staff member of the house foreign relations committee. and the foreign affairs committee at the world bank. he has had quite a varied career, and is the author of six books. he is working now on a book about wilson's re-election in 1916. he has a particular focus and intere
