once a bustling resort town, atlantic city had hit the skids by the 1960s. the customers long departed. then 12 years ago new jersey opened the door to casino gambling. real estate companies began a frenzy of buying. those who last sold the building are probably smiling. those who last bought them are still waiting for the boom that has never arrived. the tourists came all right, 25 million of them last year but they find everything they want on the beach and the boardwalk and in their hotels. the few who venture out into the city find a sad array of homes. >> the problem here in this town is the people who are delegated to florida do not listen to our residents. they're in their offices all day. that's what time it is. >> let me ask you this, what do you think is going right in this country and what do you think is going wrong? >> wrong things are people are not thinking about people anymore. from old school, like when you were coming up like when i was coming up, you could leave your doors open and everybody would help each other neighborly. now it's not l

we are walking along the boardwalk that historic atlantic city boardwalk walk. you've seen the photos and illustrations and this is the new look for now. this is where the boardwalk ends and sandy taking it out completely from where we stand on up to the north. the city says they will rebuild this but as for the houses, that's going to be left up to the homeowners. what the insurance companies decide if they want to risk something like this happening again. >> you are seeing the boardwalk the casinos packed with people walking around and it must be weird to see it like a ghosttown. >> it was weird when we arrived in atlantic city. when you are on the outskirts coming in on expressway you don't see anything and there was nothing to it. because it's a marshy area so to see the waters high it's not a big deal. but when we made it to the trump plaza and looked at ceasears and looking up to the other side at tropicana there's no one around. i think in the four hours we were there, i would say for the first three of them, you probably didn't count 100 people. >> wow.

the chilly conditions, again, through the mid-atlantic and into the, not so much for the mid-atlantic, but we're going to be where we are now. the temperature next tuesday will be about 52 degrees. the same for new york and there well a pocket of chilly air. and there is something everyone knows, we saw sandy and this is no sandy-type of storm. what this is is a typical fall- like system that we sometimes see developing near the coast and this is being hinted at for next tuesday or tuesday night. somewhere in the timeframe, maybe into wednesday and this can form on the coast and get the light shower activity and quickly zip out to sea. or it could develop into something different and grab some of the chilly air we see in the ohio valley in contrast with the warmer air and become more of a storm that might kick up a wind and for some of the areas in the northeast. i would rather not see something like that on the weather map and not sure what scenario this would take. and how fast that forms and the time. that is what we're watching. sometimes that has an affect along the i-5 corridor
