the atlantic club closed in january. earlier, revel filed for bankruptcy for the second time in as many years. what does this mean for the future of atlantic city's gaming industry? matt de is live tonight. >> reporter: one reason is because revenues in the city have been dropping over the past eight years by $3 billion. of the four caesars properties, showboat is performing the worst. >> we just got through a very difficult period, a chapter closing. >> reporter: the mayor argues that despite declining gaming numbers, better days are on the way. yet with revel threatening to close without a buyer and now the showboat being shuttered, experts feel that's a ways off. >> you might see more alignment of supply and game. >> reporter: i pulled up the gaming revenue. so far this year, harrah's is the top money maker with showboat pulling in less than half that amount. by comparison, borgata was doing well but some earn less than showboat. >> at some point you have the right number of casinos that are all going to be profitable
