deep south and mid atlantic states on tuesday as well as wednesday, killing at least six people and one of them occurred in virginia on wednesday. we have some footage coming out of the state. severe storms rolled into central virginia wednesday, a day after the same system spawned numerous tornados in the u.s. deep south. officials say close to 45 homes were damaged or destroyed in the town of appomattox. at least three people were reported dead with several people injured. the surrounding area suffered widespread damage including power outages and downed trees. authorities had to block off roads due to dangerous driving conditions. the u.s. is the most tornado-prone country in the world. but most of the tornados occur in the spring season. winter tornados are rare, typically 30 occur in february. but in the past two days, over 50 tornados occurred. so that's pretty amazing. good news with bad. the severe weather maker is pushing away from these areas affected by tornados. so things are looking up in the deep south and mid atlantic states, but instead, the northeastern u.s. is still se

the atlantic states and even up through parts of new york. they had an early wake up call in boston early this morning that is how fast this thing moved. look at the tornadoes. we got a break with that wedge. it re-intensified as it went through the eastern seaboard. our wedge hung in before it moved up the eastern seaboard. that is tuesday until about 7:00 this morning. we had anywhere between 6-12 inches of snow from this storm system in indiana and michigan. we still have snow showers coming in with the northwesterly flow, all the way back to nashville. some of that is heavy at times. this is the northern part of hayward county. the other part of swing county. these showers continued come in. even now into mcdowell county. this is the area where the winter weather advisory continues. overnight tonight until 7:00 tomorrow morning. additional snow is possible across this area. the further you head towards the tennessee line, the higher elevations. that is when you can see five inches of snow before this is all done. we have had off and on sn

mid atlantic states need to look out for the winter weather conditions. snow accumulation of anywhere from 7 to 15 centimeters. the freeziing rain concern is also in place. we'll see a quick bump up on tuesday because of the surge of warm air. but we'll get slammed back to single digit temperatures as we go through wednesday. and you can see the cold air extending as far south as atlanta. back to the west, much hotder conditions, look at this high of 31 in los angeles. you're dealing with heat on monday. in japan we saw very warm air in place. and now we're seeing the cold air, the winter pressure pattern coming back into the picture, so we're dealing once again with sea-effect snow to the northern portions of the country. back to the west, much drier looking and sun eye conditions from beijing to shanghai, and down to taipei, a high of 9 degrees. now rapidly, a look at europe. we have a trough. you may notice the clouds moving to the north and east, that is what we call a trough. southerly flow on the eastern side, that's going to push up temperatures. a
