firefighters say an electrical issue started an attic fire in a home on westminster avenue. they say insulation caught fire, and the home didn't have working smoke detectors. luckily, a man inside the home was able to get out before firefighter arrived a little after 3:30 this morning. firefighters say they stopped the fire before it could damage any of the home below the attic. dominion virginia power shut off electricity while firefighters investigated. no one was hurt. about 30 minutes before that fire in norfolk, there was one at a home in virginia beach. firefighters are trying the fire on glenfield court. that's near hilltop. firefighters say two resident suffered smoke inhalation, but refused treatment. firefighters tweeted these pictures of the fire. they believe it started on the second floor of the home. new this morning, firefighters in chesapeake put out a fire that was hard to get to. crews told us they got the call just after midnight of a fire on woodland drive. viewers could see it from northbound 664 near dock landing road. initally firefighters thought it w

investigators say there was signficant fire damage in the attic and the walls. the red cross is helping another place to stay this morning. virginia beach police need your help finding a man who tried to steal a generator. take a close look at this picture. officers say the man put a generator in a shopping cart at the walmart on lynnhaven parkway. he made it past all areas he'd pay for it - but ran away when he was confronted. if you have any information call police. c-s-x railroad's chief executive doesn't think railroad mergers -- like the one canadian pacific has proposed with norfolk southern -- should happen. michael ward says he doesn't think railroad mergers make much sense because they don't offer significant benefits and federal regulators might not approve them. ward says major railroads already have plenty of room to improve and expand capacity without a merger. so far, norfolk southern has rejected all of canadian pacific's offers, but the back-and-forth may evolve into a proxy fight because canadian pacific wants we continue to follow newport news
