housing first given that s i p hotels in many ways reflected that and to better inform our permanent supportive housing programs more generally. last week, the city attorney's officenstitute introduced a resolution to approve what will be the largest settlement among any of the unlit a gated claims for damages that due to residents, um. the two problems , residents cause to shelter in place hotels. it seeks a general fund payment of $19.5 million to the whitcomb hotel to restore that you historic landmark located in my district. by my calculation that puts payouts deriving from damages to s i p hotels in excess of $50 million i want to emphasize that this hearing should focus on evidence that can inform our evidence based housing first policies moving forward. however i am not interested in recrimination about whether we should have had s i p hotels, we as a city made important and bold and necessary decisions at the onset of covid 19, and in large part these decisions saved lives. um still, i think there are important lessons to learn from it, and i want to make sure we don't miss the opportunity to do that. i also thank supervisor rafael mandolin for agreeing to
