so i kind of sad, harvard, but i made it sound like auburn.and he actually from then i never brought me to see hedley donovan again, but i think he thought for the rest of time that i've gone to auburn. [laughter] one of the things we try to do because of that was when i became editor of "time" magazine it was true that you get isolated as a journalist, especially in the state capitol. so we used to get a greyhound bus and drive route 50 across america, stopping at pta meetings and town halls and bowling alleys and rotary club practice, so that people could get a sense on really what was on people's minds. the last trip we took instead of doing the bus trip, we rented something that always wanted to do, a boat and went from panama missouri and went down to new orleans. while i was at "time" magazine, it's rarely got bitten by the notion of covering people, but also about the possibility of writing books. otto friedrich was my senior editor. a wonderful old man with a bushy red mustache who is totally and always and constantly amused by himself

games won by comfortable margins and there were close calls against the university of tennessee and auburn university. there was the return matchup with florida, the defending s.e.c. championship and the defending national champion and its outstanding quarterback tim tebow in the s.e.c. title game. each game and each victory was a building block towards the b.c.s. championship game on january 7 where the team achieved its ultimate goal. the matchup in pasadena was fitting because the university of alabama and the university of texas both have proud football histories with legendary coaches and coaches like paul -- with coaches like paul "bear" bryant and darrell loyal. the fans on both sides were aphid and dedicated who -- avid and dedicated who came out to support their teams with enthusiasm. but in doing so they were very respectful and hospitable towards each other. that is the way college athletics should be. that's the way that things should be on the floor of this house. and we should all be committed to that. and i think that we are. the game itself had inspiring personal stories. t
