audrey barnes is live with the latest. audrey. >> wisdom, two of the southbound lanes of rockville pike reopened to traffic. but the northbound side is still shut down. it appears that within the next few minutes, they'll be moving that badly battered, shattered metro bus that was involved in the fatal accident. i want to steel out of the way so you can take a look at the front end of this bus. this 13 year veteran bus driver was sitting behind the wheel of that demolished metro bus. when a truck coming southbound crossed the median and slammed into her truck. the impact was so great it pushed that metro bus off the road and it then slammed into a tree. we saw some of the cleanup crew here removing shattered pieces of windshield. parts of the buses that was tangled around the fencing here and around the tree are quite an impact here. and also, in the worlds of one neighbor, the skid marks across this median perhaps tells a story of what happened here. witnesses do tell us that the truck collided with the bus as it was head

audrey barnes spoke with an eyewitness and joins us live with the latest. audrey? >> reporter: i just talked to samir who lives in front of the accident scene. he was outside of the home trying to secure items blowing in the wind. just as the metro bus careens across rockville pike and slams into a tree and fence in front of the house, he said it was the most terrifying thing he's experienced and he said that people were coming, jumping off of the bus injured, limping, and he also said that he went up to a driver of one of the cars involveed and that man was pinned against the steering wheel. he said he put his hand on to the man's nose and he detected no signs of good evening. we're told there is one fatality here at the accident scene and several serious injuries. all of the people have been transported to the hospital but they say that rockville pike will be shut down for hours. back to you. >> thank you, much more on fox 5 news at 10. >>> good afternoon, i'm dave feldman. of the 84 players that made the pro bowl this year, 65 came from winning teams. for instan

audrey barnes reports protestors' plan to build a shelter led to the standoff. >> reporter: the bar-like building went up overnight. demonstrators say they had architects and engineers draw up plans for it and spent about $1,400 on building materials. >> we built it because there's a lot of people occupying here and were cold. going to have this green technology with a way of keeping people warm, and will be used for our general asse >> reporter: what they didn't have was a permit, so police said it had to come down. protestors ignored the 11: 11:45 a.m. deadline to remove the structure. [yelling] >> reporter: some sat inside in, others went on the roof, refusing to go. the police started arresting them. a city building inspector declared the structure unsafe just after 5:00. police issued more warnings for the six holdouts on the roof to come down. armored vehicle arrived, along with a giant air bag and a cherry picker. after some coaxing, two jumped into the air bag. it took an officer in a cherry picker to harness up the last four occupiers and get them off the roof. >> building a bui

fox5's audrey barnes is there live with a closer look. audrey, they bulldozed this thing, right?rter: that's right, will. the structure built by those d.c. occupiers is down now. took them about four hours to put it up overnight. it's a 30-foot tall structure that many stayed inside and on the roof all day long. the u.s. park police said they didn't have a permit to build it and they believe the building was unsafe. 31people in all were arrested for occupying that barn-like building. the protestors said they spent about $1,400 on building material. they planned to make it an assembly room and a homeless shelter. even though that 30-foot tall wooden structure is down, the rest of the tent is intact. a park police spokesman says now there are no plans to remove it. >> thank you. >>> the d.c. council will likely hold a closed door meeting tomorrow to talk about their embattled colleague, harry thomas. federal agents raided his home friday. he's accused of funneling $300,000 in city money from a charity he runs, to use the money himself. he says he's innocent, but offered to repay th

audrey? >> reporter: i'm at the scene that you mentioned at riggs road in al delphi, maryland. take a look at some of the video that we have been able to get since we arrived here. we believe that the victim of this police-involved shooting was driving that red overturned vehicle that you see. there also was what appears to us to be an unmarked suv beside it. we were told that we were involved in a police chase in an earlier incident at east- west highway. we are told that was a stabbing. on the way to this scene, we stopped by this scene. we believe that's when the whole incident began. if you take a look at the video at east-west highway, this took place at a sunoco gas station there we were told there was a stabbing. there was a porch with a bloody rag. the driver of that vehicle was stabbed and has been transported to the hospital. now, from witnesses, we are told that a takoma police officer was near that scene at the sunoco station, saw the stabbing and then took off in pursuit of that suspect. he pursued him through takoma park and that's how he ended up here. the suspec

audrey barnes is live with this bizarre incident. audrey. >> reporter: this whole thing started here when a takoma park man stopped for gas across the street behind me at new hampshire avenue and east west highway about 3:45 this afternoon. as he was filling up his car, he went inside the minimart and when he came back outside, there was a man inside. what happened next led to a stabbing, a police chase, and a fatal police involved shooting. the takoma park man was stabbed after confronting a suspect he caught inside his vehicle. as the man lay bleeding beside his car, police say the suspect didn't just drive off, he rammed the porsche and then he took off. witnesses flagged down two takoma park police officers who gave chase, lights and sirens on. >> there were two officers involved in the pursuit. a male officer and female officer. the male officer is a canine officer. the male officer is a 23 year veteran. the female officer is an 8 year veteran. >> the chief says the two officers lost sight of the suspect in his red ford focus. u

audrey barnes is in the newsroom now with more. >> those two fires caused an estimated $130,000 damage to the garages of two homes just blocks apart. investigators have uncovered some key evidence that they hope will lead them to the people responsible. the first fire was reported at about 10:45 last night on singleton terrace. the detached garage and all of its contents went up in flames. within minutes a second call came in about a garage fire on addison woods road a few blocks away. the homeowners there lost two of their cars in the blaze. investigators say they haven't determined the exact cause, but it does appear that both fires are linked and they were both deliberately set. >> i feel like i feel bad. >> there's no way that. had to be premeditated i think. >> i just spoke with the lead investigator on the case, corporal jason west. he says detectives found the caps of marine flares, the time used for distress signals -- the type used for distress signals, all over the neighborhood and they may have been used to start those fires and are now part of the investigation which also i

fox 5's audrey barnes talked to his family and friends tonight about the senseless crime. >> kevin victor survived a brutal civil war in liberia when he was just a child. he started school in the u.s. years behind his peers but against all odds he graduated from northwestern high school last year only to be gunned down in brentwood friday just minutes from home. >> he's as cool as it gets. reporter: jerome nelson was with his two best friends kevin victor and k.d. friday night walking on the path behind the queens home apartments in brentwood when two young teens walked up behind them. >> i was in front of everybody and all of a sudden kevin and k.d. ran right past me. they just ran like they were in ate track i'm trying to fig -- in a track meet. i'm trying to figure out what was going on. reporter: for some unknown reason kevin victor doubled back to confront the boys, a decision that cost him his life. shots rang out within seconds. >> he shot again and missed and he shot one more time and kevin was like oh. i lifted him up and he started bleeding in my hands. i just lost. it. reporter

fox 5's audrey barnes here with the latest. >> this whole thing started back in 2009 when loudoun countyl holiday displays on government property. then they said they'd allow the first 10 applicants to build theirs which brings up a display that went up overnight. we want to warn you, some viewers and especially children may find it inappropriate. leesburg's newly elected supervisor ken reed e-mailed us these photos of a sequel 10 dressed as santa -- of a skeleton dressed as santa claus nailed to a cross outside the courthouse. he chastised the outgoing board of supervises for failing to revise a policy that allowed jeff heck lynn of middleburg to' he -- hecklin of middleburg to erect the display on the steps of the courthouse. >> this is very disgusting and i think this obscene thing of santa claus in a skeleton outfit on a cross. i think it really crossed the line. >> reporter: an application was submitted to the board which basically approved them first come, first served. hecklin's display didn't stay intact long, though. a county resident was so disturbed by it she dismantled it. jo

his father joseph audrey landruno was a world war ii veteran. benny, who grew up in vedri nevmentment, louisiana, chose to follow in his fearnlings footsteps and rose through the ranks in the louisiana national guard. he enlisted as a light weapons infantry in 1969 in the 773rd maintenance battalion. two and a half years later he graduated and became a second lieutenant platoon leader as part of the 3671st ma maintenane company. from these very early beginnings in the national guard, he progressed rapidly through the ranks. during his time with the guard, he was part of several major campaigns, including a deployment during desert storm. and during the first gulf war general landreneau and his battalion were tasked with any number of missions, one important one for the gulf war commander himself, general franks. general franks needed an unmanned aerial vehicle landing strip built immediately, so he knew who to call to get that job done, and he called benny landreneau and his battalion. need i say that it was done, i am a.m. sure, under budget an
