audrey barnes has the details of his capture. audrey. >> reporter: maureen, within hours after he allegedly sexually assaulted a housekeeper and tied up the home owner and her son, inside a house on barden road in bethesda, the police say the suspect was out using the victim's credit card. and it was that shopping spree that landed the sexual predator behind bars again. on january 10th, a woman in this townhouse complex was robbed at gun point as me is entered her garage. the man stole her wallet and car. the next day, the suspect struck again on bardeny road in bethesda. >> the second home invasion, he approached the housekeeper after she was coming back to the residence and produced a handgun and tied up all the residents in the home, including the mother, son and housekeeper and sexually assaulted a housekeeper and left in the housekeeper's vehicle. that vehicle has not been found. >> reporter: within hours, the police had this image of the suspect, shopping with the victim's credit card at a cvs store. >> and we obtained the

audrey barnes has our story. >> reporter: police say kevin ray office a violent crime spree, suspected in three armed home invasions and two rapes in four days n. montgomery and prince georges county. thanks to tips from the public, ray was also a convicted sex offender and is off of the streets and behind bars again. police say the crime spree started here on mcman road in wheaton. the suspect steals a woman's wallet and her car after approaching her at gun point in her garage. the next day detectives say he ties up a home owner and her son and sexually assaults the housekeeper at this house on barden road. two days later, he strikes again on berkeley street in temple hill. the police were able to identify kevin ray of fort washington and track him to north carolina. after he's caught on tape using a stolen victim's credit card. >> and he resisted and was transported to a local jail there. >> and kevin ray is facing charges in all three home invasions and two sexual assaults. he'll be extra dutied to maryland in a few days. >>> -- extradited to maryland in a few days. >> d.c. detectiv

fox 5 -- linked to several other crimes am fox 5 audrey barnes has de-- crimes. fox 5 audrey barnes has the details. >> they were called to wolf creek place by a woman who said she'd been assaulted by her boy friend. as officers escorted her inside to get her belongings, they discovered drugs and paraphernalia, but the suspect was gone. he was spotted a short time later in a vehicle. police tried to pull him over and that's when the chase was on. police say the suspect from the domestic ran into this minivan filled with kids while trying to get away slightly injuring the driver. the chase continued through belle prix, layhill and on to the aspen hill your silver spring where several kids were playing in the cul-de-sac. >> i was playing with my friends and heard a screaming car come up. it was spinning and it hit the poach reporter: his dad heard the impact. >> all of a sudden i heard a big crash and all these kids playing out front including my son ran into my house. we were scared because the car hit that telephone pole right over there and that if it didn't hit

fox 5's audrey barnes with the latest in the newsroom. >> the street value of the heroin this time around was $31,000. the two previous arrests netted almost $700,000 of illegal drugs. despite the ramped up enforcement, it appears there is no shortage of people willing to try such risky behavior to make a buck. customs and border patro agents zeroed in on a passenger from ghana thursday when he landed at dulles airport, one of several recent trips here, and they wanted to know why. >> the more he spoke, it just unraveled and became more and more inconsistent. reporter: as they searched his luggage, his story fell apart prompting a trip to the hospital for x-rays and that's when he confessed to swallowing more than two dozen condoms stuffed with heroin. >> just about a pound of condoms was found inside his stomach upon x-ray of. reporter: with heroin in it? >> yes. reporter: what's the street value? >> probably about 30, $35,000, somewhere in that range. reporter: customs agents have been making finds like that since june and it got worse around the holidays. agent netted almost $700,000 o

fox 5's audrey barnes with more on the thousands of people that braved cold and nightfall to see the memorial. reporter: against the backdrop of nightfall the memorial stood out like a buy beacon. >> it wasn't here when we were -- like a beacon. >> it wasn't here when we were little, but it's here to educate them on his life. reporter: it's the first time evelyn cherry surrounded by her children and grandchildren has seen the memorial in person. she called it a fitting tribute to the man who inspired her to jump auto a train with her father and sis -- on a train with her father and sister back in 1963 to attend a march on washington. >> i wanted them to witness this historical sight so when they go back to their school they can say hey, my grandmother took me to the memorial and i was there in person just like i was here in 1963 in person when they had that march. reporter: the 30-foot statue has been controversial since before it opened last year and it's a huge draw. some months it attracts more visitors than the lincoln memorial and on this day the first king holiday since it open
