four men have been shot in the 1300 block of north capitol street northwest where we find fox 5 audrey barnes with the very latest. >> reporter: a call about shots fired came in 10 minutes after 9:00 tonight. when police arrived, they quickly became aware they were looking for a group of three to five males who opened fire on a crowd here. >> upon arrival of the units to the scene they found five adults suffering from gunshot wounds as a result of a group of gentlemen or individuals firing up in the block in the area. the victims were taken to a local hospital and treated. at this time one is in critical condition. >> reporter: the captain tells us the other four are believed to have nonlife threatening injuries. we did talk to a resident who lives in the very building in front of where this shooting happened. she told us that at 9:00 last sunday there was another shooting. she heard three shots and looked outside and saw a woman on the ground who apparently had been shot in that incident. we do not know if there's any connection. people living around here say there has been trouble here for

audrey barnes with the latest. >> reporter: the call for shots fired here in the 1300 block of north capitol street came in at 9:11 tonight. i'll step away and let you see the scene behind me. police have the block cordoned off. we've seen a k-9 unit looking for evidence. we're told four males and one female were all found shot here at least once a little bit after 9:00 tonight. they've all been transmitted to the hospital. we're told they were conscious and breathing when they left the scene tonight. we are not at this point being led to believe this was a drive- by shooting. there is no lookout for a vehicle, but police say they do have a lookout for a suspect in this case. he's described as a black male wearing a black t-shirt, jean shorts, white shoes seen leaving the scene after these five people were shot. neighbors are gathering on the street. they tell me there's been trouble on this block at least the last week. one woman reports a shooting about a week ago where three people were shot. so there has been trouble in the area. other people coming up and down the street have ta

my colleague audrey barnes has been rooting around annapolis nearby during the early evening hours.t did you find? >> reporter: even just coming into annapolis today you knew it was going to be a different kind of day. i can't remember the last time they lowered the speed limit on state highways and today it was only 45 miles per hour. you know the bay bridge was closed as well. so it was very different for travelers today coming through annapolis. instantly you noticed that the wind was a problem and the rain was a problem. there's still a high wind advisory in place for annapolis and a flood watch until tomorrow evening. i just got off an advisory from the annapolis city officials. they really expect the biggest surge to be 6:00 tomorrow morning. so it's not over yet. i think that people cannot get complacent about this storm. the city officials wanted to let people know annapolis senior high school is an open shelter for anyone who needs a safe place to stay. power outages are scattered throughout the city, but there are some. if you need a warm place to sleep, annapolis senior h

audrey barnes is following the story in the newsroom. afis was arrested after he parked a van filled with a thousand pounds of explosives outside the federal reserve building in manhattan. he tried to detonate it in a suicide mission, a plan that was foiled by under cover agents that was tracking the would be terrorist for months. >> federal investigators say 21-year-old quazi nafis moved here a year ago, specifically to carry out a terrorist attack. earlier today, investigators say nafis went to a warehouse and assembled what he thought was a 1,000 pound bomb. the materials were all fake, provided by under cover agents. after driving the bogus bomb to the federal reserve bank this morning and trying several times to detonate it from his cell phone, agents moved in and arrested nafis. he is now charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to provide support to al-qaeda. security expert, larry johnson, says nafis, who he calls a lone wolf wannabe isn't a serious threat. >> authorities say nafis proposed severa

fox 5's audrey barnes joins us live from the scene in waldorf. what's the latest? >> reporter: a couple in their 40s was out walking their dog about 7:15 tonight on this popular footpath that leads from the neighborhood to westlake high school. there was a football game going on at the high school at the time and officers working at that game heard the shots and rushed here to the scene to help and they found the couple that had been shot multiple times. the man was able to give them a very disturbing account of what happened here and we just heard that account from police just moments ago. they tell us that he and his wife encountered a lone gunman on this path and when their dog, a boxer, barked at this man, he unloaded his gun shooting them multiple times. now the wife did die at the hospital. the man is in serious condition and this community is on edge. >> you can see the presence of the police department all over the neighborhood and it's tragic, the first time that something like this happened. it's been a very quiet neighborhood for 24 years. >> reporter: n
