they loved the augustine essays like joseph addison and richard steele. and emerson inherited that. and there's certainly a kind of perfume of the pulpit in some of his writing. it's very ruminative. it's never narratively driven at all. and it may have a little bit of that loftiness, a little bit of, you know, ministerial elevation, which, again, we're not always we don't always warm to in this day and age. but i think those two things could be adjusted to fairly easily. i mean, you could look spend some time with this prose. you could get a sense for what it's like, just as we do when we read dickens. i mean, most people after a little adjustment, don't find it hard to read charles dickens even though he's another victorian. but there's another aspect to emerson's writing having to do with how he assembled these essays, which really opened my eyes and in a way made me so much more tolerant towards this. they're not really flaws, but toward some of the characteristics of his prose that can be hurdles for a modern reader. i'm going to read a little passage about these compositional
