"let's be clear that is a form of politicization. it is just a form of politicization favoring those who prefer the status quo. since then there have been more high profile shootings," ezra writes. been a great deal of planning involved in this. >> we've seen this, just like the shooting in aurora, colorado that we saw friday. both of these young men are described as very bright. as you know, the individual in colorado was working on a doctoral program. we're told that this young man from friday was successfully able to take college courses, but, again, you know, whether there is a diagnosable psychological problem here, whether we're dealing with somebody who is crazy or somebody who is schizophrenic, i think the bottom line is they are still capable of going out and doing something like this, and as the doctor suggests, the guy on friday gets the guns from his mother. the guy in portland, oregon, earlier this week stole the gun. cho at virginia tech went out and bought them, even though he clearly had psychological problems and no stops had been placed against him. we have 310 million americans. 275 million guns. it's going to be a challenge keeping guns out of those hands who would use them in a wrong way, but we've got to start somewhere, and we've got to start sometime. >> doctor. >

. >>> the aurora, colorado movie theater where the gunman opened fire earlier this year getting ready to reopen. the city's mayor says it will open to the public on january 18th. before the reopening family members of shooting victims will be allowed inside that movie theater. the movie theater plans to run free movies to the public for the first couple of days. it has been undergoing remodeling and a revamping for the last two months. james holmes is accused of killing 12 people and hurting 58 others in that theater shooting that happened earlier this year. >>> beginning today people in washington state can legally smoke pot. adults will be allowed to have up to an ounce of marijuana. just like drinking you can't smoke pot in public places. earlier this morning people in washington state broke that new law. they held a smokeout beneath seattle's space needle. others are planning to hold a party in seattle. >>> a movie hasn't even hit theaters yet and it's already creating incredible oscar buzz. >> we're talking about the film "zero dark thirty" and depiction of the hunt for osama bin

talked about gun control and this type of issue were in the days after that horrible shooting in aurora, colorado. the president delivering a speech to the urban league. i'm going to read you a little portion of that speech because it fleshes out what was behind his words today. the president saying he believes in the second amendment. but, quote, i also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree that a.k. 47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of criminals. that they belong on the battlefield of war. i believe the majority of gun owners would believe that we should do everything possible. that a mentally unbalanced individual should not be able to get his hands on a gun so easily. so those are some of the policy issues, i think, that are behind those words that he made today. and, again, we expect those words to be flushed out in the coming days and weeks. i can tell you that this debate has already begun here at the white house. people going online expressing their frustration, their sadness, their grief today on the white house web site. but also calling for stiffer gun legisl
