thank you and what a pleasure it is to be here in austin texas the greatest bookstore in the country. i'm the editor of texas monthly magazine and i'm so pleased to be here. the one secret that i have learned is when you like and admire the author that you've are introducing you keep it short and get her appear onstage. i would say how special it is to be here and what a nice pleasure it is. as we all know jim was raised in the pine woods and got the book for writing and reading in her household when she was growing up because there were books about because of her mom and dad in at the age of 16 took a part-time job at the weekly newspaper in her hometown of cleveland at the cleveland advocate and from then she has never stopped writing and went to the university of texas the teenager list covering politics first in san antonio and then off to bigger land became a fellow at harvard and then to our great fortune became a writer at texas monthly magazine where she's been a perfect friend and colleague. we were fortunate in the recent issue to take an excerpt of the book which was great
