summer winning out here as we get into early autumn. here's a look at our sky over the last couple of hours looking to the west. american university in the foreground, virginia in the distance. and you can see clouds that are coming in from the west and the northwest, after some sunshine broke out have pretty much started to roll back on through here in many areas now getting quite a bit of a cloud cover now pushing through, which is blocking the sun. it's not keepi that temperature from warming up. let's look at the live picture now, the sky watcher camera showing considerable cloudiness at this hour. we do have temperatures that have hit the 80s now, there's the view over the potomac river. there's sunshine pouring down there at reagan national. right now the temperature is at 84, the record high today, 94. set on this date back in 1970. so september can be hot even in late september and early october, not unheard of for temperatures to hit the 90s. we're not going to do that today. let's look at radar. the clouds are not producing ra

certainly feeling like autumn. these are the final fleeting hours of astronomical summer. 50s weather watchers reporting shbd shbd and around the blue ridge and much of virginia and maryland this morning. only the low and mid-50s. near 60 in washington. only in the 50s in southern maryland, northern neck and the eastern shore. out in the mountains it's only in the 50s as well so quite an autumn-like start to this day. as we take a look across the country, shouldn't have any flight delays except perhaps parts of the upper midwest as well as through perhaps, oh, near indianapolis and columbus, down through louisville and memphis and nashville later on today. elsewhere we should not have any travel problems weatherwise. we do have a swath of rain stretching from alabama and georgia all the way to the great lakes. that will stay to our west today as high pressure is keeping us dry here. that high will continue moving out over the western atlantic. as it does it will increase our chances for some rain. here's the bus st

autumn begins 5:19 in the afternoon tomorrow. and by then a few western showers here and a better chance of getting wet on wednesday when we reach a high of 79. despite the clouds and despite the rain. here's the slow-moving system off to our west. it will be straddling the appalachian mountains today. in the coastal plains in dc to the tide water and delmarva, a dry afternoon. in the mountains we squeeze in a shower or two but the bulk of the rain comes tomorrow and isolated chances later in the day. we have weak high pressure over new york city keeping us dry. trying to prevent this stuff from moving east. it will lose out and we will watch this rain increase and as we take you hour by hour, starting at noon today you'll notice we don't have any green on the screen. the time line, 6:00. the commute is dry, no problems. as we head overnight and tomorrow morning it will be cloudy and not raining. over my shoulder we get showers in later in the afternoon and certainly by 10:00 tomorrow night. we will be on the lookout for that and
