why is this autumnal equinox and the timing of it so important? ng, guys, this is the whole reason we see seasons, and it marks the change until the season for us. what actually happens. equinox, term latin for equal nights. all it means is that the sun's direct rays, most direct rays, are over the equator. as we go through the course of fall, and into winter, eventually the most direct rays will fall over the tropics of capricorn, and then eventually as they sort of migrate to the north again, over the tropic every cancer, that's when you have the summer solstice. so all of this really means is that because the earth is tilted on its axis, we see that change, and where the direct rays are, on a daily basis. and as a result we get our seasons. so important, if we did not have tilt on the axis of the earth, all we would have would be 12 hours every daylight every day, no change in the seasons, we wouldn't have season at all, in fact, just basically the same thing happening day after day. so, that basically the whole reason we have seasons and weathe
