we inquired, what are your plans for ocean avenue? we said -- they said -- well, we will replace the streetcar tracks over the next three years. so, we proposed to the railway that they do ocean avenue in segments of four blocks each. money aside, as well as the parking lanes. they refused to do it. we collected about 3000 signatures and distributed them to the board of supervisors. we were holed up and a meeting was arranged between us and some of the people from muni. there were 12 merchants there, as well as three people from the muni. they replace the streetcar track segments in four blocks and not a single merchant went out of business life on board street. bridget went out of business like onboard street. when we started there were six small stores on ocean avenue. this is in the middle of the avenue. this moves us into the stock that would provide greater access for the residents of the park and greater safety for all of the user's including san francisco state. this would create a very important linkage that is missing in our transportation system in this side of the city. there are other advantages not only providing for stops that you can get off the new system but also the opportunities to create a landscaped front door to the city right here on 19th avenue. we also will be providing a zero to low emissions shuttle bus that will provide access from this unique and the bus stops that we are providing at the northern edge directly to the daily city parks station. this connects directly to the part. this is a very important linkage. in the interim, we will be using the same shuttle best -- shuttle bus. as was mentioned, this is a long-term project which took approximately 20 years to complete but we know the estimates that we have given you are actually conservative ones. we see

. -- a strip mall just off of 19th avenue. people notice there. they will have signs that you can see as you are driving by. they need more and more customers to make that a viable operation and to make this a neighborhood where people can walk to places they want to go. so, i like this idea very much. the flight paths are a wonderful idea. i lived in a tower and i don't want to take a bike at then down the elevator. 19th avenue and holloway, i'm very positive about the idea is there because i don't walk that intersection much but i drive through it a lot and i dread it every single time because there are people running here and there to get to the train or the bus or people are just leaving. for a while, there was a camera there and i was terrified to use that intersection because i could easily wind up in the middle of the intersection just because of pedestrian traffic. this is bad for drivers, not just pedestrians. san francisco state right now has a shuttle to bart which is so near and so far. the shuttle from the school

the approval of this intention to form a benefits district on ocean avenue. i would like to thank her for all of her work as part of the leader of the ocean avenue collaborative. i like to think people, many members who have worked for years to help do volunteer work on ocean avenue. and people who have worked to assure that we have gotten this far in the formation of a community benefits district. the petitions that have gone out to approve this first went out in march of this year. the response was 31 -- excuse me, 31.6% approval rating for these petitions which allow them to have a vote. if we approve this resolution today, the ballots will go out to property owners. and we will have a hearing on november 16 to go over the results and here the last committee input on the benefits district. the management plan includes maintenance work along the corridor and adding value to what is currently being done in terms of graffiti removal. there will be marketing to attract new businesses. there are a couple of storefronts that have been empty for a number of years
