ayman mohyeldin is in port st. lucie and has been in contact with family members. t are they telling you? >> reporter: good morning, jose. we're learning a little bit more about her version of events and, more importantly, the context in which so many of these pieces of information have been coming out. you talked about those text messages that were exchanged during the shooting rampage. the way it has been told to us from a source close to noor is that the exchange began when her mother-in-law called her telling her or asking her about omar's whereabouts. this was late in the evening, late at night. at which point noor woke up and texted her husband saying where are you. he replied by saying have you been following the news or did you see what's happening now? she replied no with a question mark to which he replied i love you. that was the last exchange they had that took place roughly around the time of the shooting rampage. she called him afterwards repeatedly to find out where he was. she did not get an answer. it was only a couple of hours later when police sho

ayman mohyeldin is with us with more information on this investigation. ayman?blic appeal came at the news conference held by several agencies participating in this investigation. they briefed reporters on the state of investigation and most of it was to try and dispute some of the accounts that had been coming out in the media and elsewhere about some perhaps casings if you will of omar mateen to other venues across florida. there was a report that he had gone to various other locations here and possibly to scout them out for potential attacks. they say according to their analysis of the electronic media, that has not been the case. they do not believe he was in fact casing any other locations, that he did not in fact visit other gay bars. so that has been an important development for them as they try to determine whether or not pulse was always the number one target for him. in terms of other aspects of the investigation, a lot of that focusing on omar mateen's wife. we know she's no longer here in the area. police not saying yet or state attorney's office not

let me now bring in msnbc's ayman mohyeldin who joins us from omar mateen's home in ft. pierce, florida. ayman, i know you just heard what pete reported here. now sources telling nbc news that noor mateen claims that she attempted to talk her husband out of carrying out some sort of act. at some point she drove him to this nightclub. it is not clear whether he shared his plot, his plan with her. but we're now hearing a similar story that this did not happen with one individual, that other people potentially, in this case noor mateen, knew something. >> yeah. and in fact, tamron, over the past several days i've been trying to reach her because we know that she had been holed up with omar mateen's father not too far away from where we are. as a result of that, we were trying to get any comment from her in terms of what she may have known about this particular attack or any insight she may be able to provide about omar mateen, the state of his mind in the lead-up to this attack. the response that we are consistently getting is that she is not ready to talk. she did not want

ayman mohyeldin is following the investigation in orlando. ayman, good morning. what are we expecting to hear in these calls? >> reporter: well, we're expecting to hear from senior members of the investigative team, the fbi investigative team that is here on the scene that continues its forensic analysis of the pulse nightclub. they're going to brief reporters in about an hour's time to give us an update on the investigation. not yet clear what direction they're going to address specifically, whether they're going to talk about those transcripts. now, you mentioned those transcripts yesterday. loretta lynch, the attorney general, announcing that they plan on releasing excerpts of those conversations that took place between the crisis negotiating unit or the agents that were here on the ground as well as with omar mateen during that shooting rampage. there was a period of time about two and a half hours worth where he made three phone calls and was able to actually speak to law enforcement. so we're going to get a sense of what those transcripts look like. however

my colleague, ayman mohyeldin has been looking into some of the stories. d one particular, in story, ayman, is pretty stunning. >> it's very heartbreaking on so many levels. we're beginning to learn about the nationalities of some of these folks that were killed. out of the 44 people that were killed, 19 of them are foreigners are dual nationals. many of them -- and we have the countries among them, palestinian, uzbek, ukrainian, saudi arabian, just to give you a sense, it is an international airport, so you can expect it. but one of the stories that's heartbreaking, was the story of a tunisian man, identified by the tunisian foreign ministry as a doctor within the tunisian armed forces. he in the last couple of months, and that's him right there, seven months ago, he learned that his son had traveled to europe, made his way to france, and ultimately from france on to iraq and syria. his son had gone off to join isis. a couple of months ago, his father tried to bring his son back home to tunisia. and so he communicated with his son, told him to turn himself

ayman mohyeldin is covering that angle for us. we rely on britain for a great deal of things when it comes to security. what might the impact be short term and long term because of the brexit? >> in the short term not much is going to change. this is going to be a process that unfolds over the course of the next two years. so as these negotiations take place to separate the united kingdom from the rest of europe, that's where it's going to start to get a little bit tricky. you talk about some of the intereuropean agencies, things that work in terms of broadening the intelligence sharing, the cooperation, the transfer of information, if you will, between a lot of these european security agencies. that's going to come to an end as the united kingdom separates from the european union. they're going to have to start negotiating new agreements, new treaties that will allow this intelligence sharing to take place. so there's going to be a setback in terms of counterterrorism, intelligence sharing. the big picture issue, not just the cou

a man m ayman mohyeldin joins us from port st. lucie, florida. we've learned at least one witness believes that he saw mateen with a radio potentially listening to the scanner traffic from police. >> reporter: yeah, that is one of the important pieces of information that is coming out from these eyewitnesss. so many of these survivors are going to provide critical detail to investigators as they continue to piece together the timeline of what happened inside there. as you mentioned, this survivor, who we interviewed, said that he believed that the shooter, omar mateen, had with him a radio that allowed him to listen in on police scanners. now, that would be very critical because a lot of eyewitnesses believe that there may have been other police officers inside the building during the time of the shooting, but it seems according to miguel that this was a result of having -- that omar mateen had the scanner on him and that's why they were able to hear the police communications. but in addition to that, we're also getting for the first time a glimp
