i have to get your take on seeing alex azar today. he wasn't wearing a mask. was fist bumping, in close contact with a lot of people at this event. he's supposed to be one of the leaders of the pandemic response. what goes through your mind seeing this image? >> there's the obvious, that he should be modelling the type of behavior that we expect everyone to have at this point. he represents all the agencies that fall under hhs. the cdc, the nih, all of these top scientists and public health officials, what's going through their minds as they watch the leader flaunt the advise they're giving. he has a responsibility to represent that publicle th guidance to the president. this cabinet secretary in charge of health and public health is not following these very guidelines. the state of florida has the third highest case count. the governor is going to allow restaurants and bars to reopen, no state restrictions, and he also mentioned he wants a full super bowl party by february. is florida in a good position to take this next step? >> no. and let's remember where

nick just said there, what he concluded with about concern about deceit, politicization, secretary azarl play no role in the approval of a vaccine. are you worried about this? >> oh, for sure, erin, of course i'm worried. both the reputation of the fda and the cdc, unfortunately, have been tainted because of political interference. and even just this recent fda wishing to change the ground rules for the development of the vaccine has to go to the white house for approval. that's totally inappropriate. it's never happened before. it should not happen. that's evidence of political interference with a basic scientific process. >> and i just want people to understand the possibility of -- which is the potential of what damage is happening here, right? it's not just the damage to these institutions, which is serious and perhaps going to heamicans will take it.ne itsel so, in the spring, 72% of americans said they would probably get a vaccine if available. now it's only 51. that is a plunge. and that is -- i mean -- and by the way, if only 51% of people

you were quoted on monday about sector of health and human agencies, alex azar, assuming control for what all of the agencies underneath him do and say, right? barring the health agencies which would include the fda from signing any new rules that would include on a vaccine without him first approving it. so can the fda do this without him signing off? >> so i think there are maybe a couple of different things going on here. i do think that the fda can enforce this and they do so by telling the companies what they expect and any company would be foolhardy to submit something with what the fda said they required. i think they'll go along with this. the second relates to the memo from secretary azar, which i do think is, you know, something of a power grab by him. but what it does is it relates to new regulations and these orders that relate to vaccine approval and emergency use authorization they aren't orders. the move by the secretary to insist he signs all regulations i don't think it affects all regulatory approval. >> so your comment about it being a power grab, the chief of staf
