and the always beautiful barbara eden joins us now to talk a little more about the book. good morning, thanks so much for joining us. >> good morning, laura. say hello to my family and friends up there. >> yes, exactly, because that's the neat thing about it. a lot of people may not know you grew up in the bay area, you grew up on ocean street in san francisco. you in fact were miss san francisco in, what, 1951? >> yes, i was. yes, i was. >> so a lot of ties here. >> yes. and i did the last two visions of murder movies, i filmed in san jose. >> oh, wow, perfect. in the south bay as well. well, the book is a fascinating read. it really reads as a who's who talking about when you met marilyn monroe, surprisingly kissed by warren beatty, you had stories about desi arnaz in there. even getting slipped a phone number from the then senator john f. kennedy. >> yes, that was a surprise. that was when i was under contract to fox. i was very young. and i had been put in a television series called "how to marry a millionaire" which was based on the movie that marilyn monroe had done

here with none other than barbara walters. >> good morning. >> good to see you, barbara.is -- we keep saying, the former home of princess diana. >> if we want to be accurate, she did not live in the ornate part that is open to the public. her area is a series of town houses, very unornate. they are closed to the public. they're next to each other. this would be hers. next to hers would be prince michael of kent, the queen's cousin. princess margaret at one time was her neighbor. when we had lunch there because i was fortunate enough to have lunch with her, i remember the living room was painted yellow. we had lunch in the dining room, where she complained that her in-laws thought she was unstable. shortly after that, the couple was divorced. kensington palace has happy and unhappy memories. sadly, most of us remember the mountains of flowers and notes and cards that blanketed its lawn. vivid, unforgettable images, in the days after diana's death that 14 years have not totally erased. for it was the residence of the world's most famous single mother inside on apartment tha

. >> reporter: barbara hayes is a volunteer driver for the very sick and old. you really see a differences in your bottom line now. >> i used to think that. it is just, you know, three cents a gallon more what's that? but it's turned out to be a dollar or two more, and when you're filling up with 10 or 15 gallons, it really adds up. >> reporter: barbara's meticulous logs tell the story. her nearly 100 miles of volunteer driving a week add up to roughly $60 a month. she can't afford it. you can't see it, but gas prices loom large over ere plate served at this restaurant. jessica sky bolt says the owners are eating a massive cost increase because they are afraid of losing customers if they raise prices. so, what is it doing to your budget? >> it is -- our food costs are through the roof. >> reporter: a walk through the restaurant's kitchen shows the domino effect. gas charges have pushed pork chops up 20 cents a pound. sirlo sirloin, nearly a dollar a pound. bacon's up 40 cents a pound. >> the increase is bacon, $75 increase per week. >> reporter: $75 a week? >>
