( cheers and applause ). >> stephen: congratulations. how is the mother doing? how is the mother doing? >> you know, i didn't do anything. >> stephen: i know. >> i didn't do anything and i'm so tired. i think i've gained 28 pound since monday. i mean, i'm not kidding you. like, this jacket fit so well, like, last thursday. but i've been eating -- >> it's all water weight. it's all water weight. you're going to lose it. what's the baby's name. >> rocco. >> stephen: rocco cannavale. that's night. named after saint rocco? >> actually, you know, patron saint of the sick. >> stephen: there's a saint rocco. >> yeah. >> stephph: there is, really? >> yeah. he took care of sick people. pretty sure. >> stephen: yeah. >> could be wrong. i'm tired. >> stephen: it kind of sound like the patron saint of prizefighters, too. >> totally, totally. or made guys, the patron saint of made guys. he was german, actually. he wasn't italian, this saint >> the baby is doing great. >> stephen: is this your first child? >> this is my second child. i have a 20-year-old son. >> stephen: oh, wow. nice grouping. >> thank you. thanks, thanks. i just started getting sleep before this one came, so -- >> now, the series "vinyl" is about sort of the gritty, kind of wild 70s music scene. >> that's right. stephen: you're a promoter? >> no a guy who owns a record company. >> stephen: record company, okay. >> label, and he's owned this label for some years, and it's 1973, and the label is in trouble. and he's-- he doesn't want to sell the label, so it's about him bringing this lawbl back to prominence. either he does that or he kills himself by doing tooany drugs or both. >> s sphen: there is no drug he could do that is more mind bending than having a brand new baby. >> that's true. >> stephen: and not sleeping for four days. >> that is true, man. >> stephen: you did this-- scorsese is the producer and directed the first episode. >> that's right. working with scorsrse? was he a hero of yours? >> absolutely. i grew up wishing i could have been in those movies and it's sort of the next-best thing, here i am making a show with him, set in his time there, 1973. and i'm italian american, and that's like-- i grew up watching de niro in those movies and now, you know, the guy every time, every day we'd shoot he'd be like,un," i remember, bob, we were shooting "taxi driver--" and every day was something like that. it was a story about shooting "taxi driver." and-- but i kept it cool, man. you know, sometimes i'm a little too cool. you know? i was always worried that i was taking up too much of his time. >> stephen: really? even though he's your dirirtor. >> but still, inetween, he'd have me come over, "come over here and sit down and talk to me." i never wanted to over-extent my welcome. one day i was like-- i guess i said it too many times-- i said, that's my thing to say. "marty, let me let you go." and finally he goes, "where are you going to let meo? i'm here shooting a movie? where do you gotta go? where do you gotta go that you can't stay here and talk to me?" >> stephen: did you confess. >> i said, "i don't want to annoy you." he said, "you're not annoying me. stay here." he just puts you in his pocket when you're working with him and he's very collaborative and it's just a dream come true. >> stephen: i understand pacino was also a hero of yours. >> yeah is. >> stephen: you had a ritual you would do before you did a play? >> i've done a lot of theater and i just grew up, like, he was my idol. and every time i would go to the theater i would say this little mantra, "al's coming tonight. al's coming tonight. al's coming tonight." >> stephen: like into a mirror before you went on? >> no, just to myself on the train or walk -- >> to make yourself nervous? >> to up my game you know what i mean? i have to be good because al is >> stephen: sure, sure. >> and he never came, you know. ( laughter ) then they sat me next to him at the tony awards. we were both nominated for the same award-- weird. and we were sitting next to each other, and i asked him if he'd come to the show, and i was like, ," you're my idol. i would love it if you came." and he was like, "i'm coming." and he came the next week. and we've been great friend. we made a movie together. i got to play his son. and we play cards together. and it's just arip, man. it's a -- >> can you relax around him? >> i mean, i can now. i can now. he's been-- he's just great. he's just a good friend. he gave me a diaper cake for the baby upon. ( laughter ) that's so sweet. >> stephen: i'm going to imagine that's nice. >> it was like a big cake made out of diapers "for your boy!" it was awesome. ( laughter ). >> stephen: i'm not sure who i want to hear more your scorsese or your pacino? every day. it's nuts, you know,. >> stephen: you do a lot of drugs in this series. >> yeah. >> stephen: there's a lot of cocaine being snorted. i'm going to assume that's prop cocainin >> yeah. >> stephen: what are you using because-- what are you using when you snort this stuff? >> i could use some right now, you know. >> stephen: would you-- would you like some guacamole? because this will getue it's free, it's free guac. it's free guac, bobby. >> this is why i don't fit in the suit. >> stephen: no, just chew, just chew. there's no hurry. just relax. just relax for a second. >> yeah. ( dog barking ) ( laughter ) ( applause ) >> stephen: i will buy that child anything! i would buy that child anything? now why, why, tell me about that ad and explain to me why is that ad one tha i just-- it's so appealing to me? >> i think the best ads over time are simple help stories that we can all relate to. wow. i love the way they approach that kid. you bring in a piece of popular cult wur "star wars" but sometimes it's so human and hits you-- it's interesting you talked about it. it hits you in the heart. i like a company that brings me an ad like that. i like volkswagen. >> stephen: i thought you were going to say i like a company that brings an ad like that. of course, it's your company. you're out of the game, you're owcht ad game. it's super bowl sunday, the super bowl of ads. do you wish you were still in the game? do you have that hunger? do you want to go out there and sell me some chips? like being a tv star a lot more, and having a sitcom on usa. it's more pun fun than dealing with clients -- no, i do miss it. advertising is something we all get to participate in -- >> we have no choice. >> we have a choice. >> stephen: we don't get to. they're selling adspace on the inside of my eye liz at this point. >> i'm not buying your product, that's a choice. we vote artistically in the way we spend money. basically, i like your ad, i buy your product-- it's not as simple as that. it's the actual one art form that we all participate in. it sounds very prolific. it's just ads! it's just selling stuff. >> stephen: donnie, i'm going to let you go. >> stephen: you can see "donny!" on demand on www.usanetwork.com. donny deutsch, everybody! we'll be right back. only kraft natural cheese has a touch of philadelphia cream cheese, so whatever you make, never underestimate the power of energizer. our longest lasting energizer max ever. yeah, i'm married. does it matter? you'd do that for me? really? yeah i'd like that. who are you talking to? uh, it's jake from state farm. sounds like a really good deal. jake from state farm, at three in the morning? who is this? it's jake from state farm. what are you wearing jake from state farm? uh, khakis. she sounds hideous. well, she's a guy so... another reason more people stay with state farm. get to a better state. with new plumpify mascara a ginormous lash lifting brush boosts lashes to 50 times the volume and lifts lashes up up and away... new plumpify mascara from easy breezy beautiful covergirl and try new trunaked shadows and liners oh my gosh, stephanie we're, like, so goth. sfx: knocks on door. honey? i'm dying my hair, mom. hair dye? honey... it's just purple. teenage daughter? get scrubbing bubbles. kill 99.9% of germs and destroy grime. with scrubbing bubbles for 100% problem solved. they say denny's 7-pepper spicy skillet is crazy spicy, but how crazy could it be... denny's new crazy spicy skillet. denny's. welcome to america's diner. announcer: cbs monday, february 15, witness greatness at the grammys plus: and say "hello" when world superstar adele don't miss the ba da ba ba ba buying smartphones for the whole family is expensive. for a limited time, check out our half off smartphone event. get one of our most popular smartphones, and get the second one at half price. hurry to t-mobile and get new smartphones for your wholefamily today. it's just a cough. if you could see your cough, you'd see just how far it can spread. robitussin dm max soothes your throat and delivers fast, powerful cough relief. announcement: this storm promises to be the biggest of the decade. with total accumulation of up to three feet. roads will be shut down indefinitely. and schools are closed. campbell's soups go great with a cold and a nice red. here performing his grammy-nominated song, "the driver," ladies and gentlemen, please welcome i'm the driver, bringing their circus to town first one in and the last rolling out shutting down the up all-nighter all the stars and sunrises i've seen every corn field and town in between west to east oh, easy come, easy go yeah we

ba da ba ba ba >>> 6:30 on this wednesday morning. welcome to news channel 8 today. i'm gene ramirez. >> and i'm gayle guyardo. in our top stories this morning, allison huffman, the woman accused of hitting and killing a tow truck driver on the howard franklin bridge is still behind bars this morning. she has a $750,000 bond. this is not huffman's first arrest. 8 on your side dug up her >>> a suspect in a sextortion case. he is accused of contacting an 11-year-old using a messaging app. the girl told her father who contacted polk deputies. >>> a live look at a foggy morning in the bay area. you can see it's soupy as you head out the door. give yourself extra time for morning commute. this say live picture where conditions are soup this morning. and some parts it looks clear but you never know when you will drive right into that. >> exactly right. so leaving downtown tampa and heading east, you will say it's nice when you get in the car. by the time you head east of 75, very thick fog through plant city, brandon. same thing continuing east into polk county. lakeland, thick fog and getting fog up into pasco, hernando and citrus counties. but other places again, almost perfectly clear. and let me show you the fog and let me show you the fog forecast. for the next hour, i expect to see the very thick patches of fog. had single digits forecast through another hour from now at 7:35. by 8:35, we are starting to see clearer skies and by 9:30, yeah, things get better. a cooler start too. 50 in clearwater. 55 plant city. fish hawk, tampa, 53. but 41 in inverness. sunny, beautiful, low humidity kind of day, splendid at 70. in weather and traffic on the 8s, i let you know how long that lasts. and next where the roads are foggy? >>> it's all over the place and then fine and then foggy. let's take a look out there. here's 75 around fowler avenue. this is a dense area of the fog. and then just move a few miles out and it looks better as you move south. but north up in pasco county, foggy. around mango road known as 579. just ignore the low pressure you see there, that's the camera, not the weather. and let's talk about starkey boulevard, we have an accident still working. and then hopping down to bradenton, a collision 53rd avenue east at 56th court. traffic is getting busier into downtown. more coming up. now back to gene and gayle. >> thank you. >>> breaking news overnight. look at this guy. he is a university of tennessee football player and he was just released from pinellas county jail. he is facing some serious charges this morning. >> yeah, investigators insist mack crowder admitted to soliciting sex from a minor and sending lewd pictures of himself. lindsey mastis is following the story for us live from the tampa news center. so lindsey, what do we know about the flick. >> reporter: good morning. thankfully -- about the victim? >> reporter: good morning. thankfully in this case, the victim isn't really a minor. the person mack crowder talked deputy posing as a 14-year-old girl. but the timing couldn't be worse. the university is facing a lawsuit alleging more troubling behavior by male athletes. crowder bonded out of jail just a few hours ago. he planned to meet the 14-year- old in person and that's when he was arrested. the student once known as a college athlete and scholar is now suspected of a disgusting crime. and the university of tennessee is in hot water for a whole other reason. it's facing a lawsuit filed by a group of women. they claim the school mishandled reports of sexual assaults by student athletes. and they name bronco's quarterback peyton manning as part of one incident in the suit. crowder's story is the top clicked overnight. we are working to figure out what his connection to the area is. he was here for the outback bowl in the beginning of the year. this case and let you know what happens next. >> yeah, a big game against them. thank you. >>> the former usf quarterback is out on bond. this story is getting a lot of clicks on our app this morning. he turned himself in after the hillsborough sheriff's office issued a warrant for his arrest. the 29-year-old is accused of punching a man in the face at his home back in december the. he played for the bulls from 2005 to 2007. >>> and this morning, we know more about the driver doing the doughnuts in the middle of a busy intersection in pinellas park. and now charges may be forth coming. police tell us that three people were in the car at the time the video was shot. you see it spinning in the middle of the road. and all three people in the car are juveniles. and now the driver may be charged with reckless driving. >>> happening today, battling the dangerous zika virus. and it could cost us about a half million dollars. today hillsborough county commissioners will decide whether to spend that money to news channel 8's adrienne pedersen is live at the hillsborough county commission this morning. so adrienne, what exactly would the money be used for? >> reporter: good morning, gayle. so i will looking through the paper work right now and it looks like the money would be for mosquito surveillance as well as more spraying throughout the county. and that's what they'll be discussing here today. coming up later this morning at 11:15. i just checked and the latest numbers for and you the state wide tote system now at 21 cases -- total is now at 21 cases for the zika virus. and governor rick scott declared a health emergency related to the mosquito-borne illness. and we are expecting a doctor to talk more specifically about what is going on here in hillsborough county. so we will let you know what that means for you as well as your family and if the commissioners decide to go ahead and push through the $500,000 for prevention, gayle. >> well, at least it's good are trying to get ahead of the -- state are trying to get -- the state and the county are trying to get ahead of the problem. thank you. >>> potholes are costing billions of -- costing million of dollars in car repairs. according to aaa, pothole damage has cost u.s. drivers about $3 billion a driver over the past five years. >> yeah, such a hassle. i mean, almost infamous for those things there. goes a tire. >> and sometimes you don't see them coming until it's too late. and it can be dangerous because you realize when you're too close and maybe you swerve and that could cause an accident or other problems. >>> time right now 6:38. leigh, foggy in parts. >> yeah, making it more difficult to see the potholes. and the fact that we have thick fog in spots and other place, it's perfectly clear. encounter changes in the visibility. be aware of it and take your time. it's cooler this morning. 54 degrees at 8:00 a.m. and i do think that the fog will be gone not long after 9:00 this morning. and then nothing but blue skies and comfortable conditions. i like that forecast. 59 degrees at 10:00 a.m. each hour we go up to 65 at noon. 70 at 3:00. that's about our high temperature of the day. 61 degrees at 7:00 p.m. and if you know me, you know this weekend coming up is one of my favorites. the gasparilla distance classic. 15k and 5k races step off on saturday morning around 55 degrees when the 15k starts. 36 degrees for the 5k. sunday is the half marathon and 8k. 56 degrees for the half marathon. low to mid-70s through the weekend. we are checking on traffic on the 8s because we have the thick fog. >>> yeah, we definitely do. i-75 a big issue and even i-4 near 75 in that particular area. let's take a look. first of all, bearss avenue to i-4 because we have about a 15 minute commute. southbound 275 starting to get busy into downtown tampa. and that's typical. still great off the howard franklin. and let's look at some of the fog. this is i-4 right around mango road. thick here. and thicker by i-75. and let's switch over now to 275 at fowler. you see it's not as foggy but you still have some in the distance. but the big issue here is traffic is starting to get slow away from fouler and that lasts until about hillsborough avenue. not too bad in down the town tampa. that's weather and traffic on the 8s. back to gene and gayle. >> thank you. >>> a world class athlete now admits she did not want to continue living after a big loss. >> ahead, we will show you who >>> and then a bizarre accident on a basketball court. >> like a strike of lightning. it was a complete fluke. >> ahead, what happened as a player went flying to the floor. it hurts looking at that. and then couldn't get up. >>> and the winners of a massive florida powerball jackpot go public today. i can't wait to meet you guys. some winning tickets are really never claimed before they expire. we will show you what happens to the money next. you're watching news channel 8 today. r i don't know what i'm doing. i can't find anything p just when i think it's just not going to work. p this woman that works there comes over and asks can i help you?
