what happened and will classes resume tomorrow at west babylon high school? eyewitness news reporter stacey sager is at the school with the latest. >> reporter: police want help from anyone that knows what happened at the school. they have been unable to figure it out. they can't say if the school will reopen tomorrow. more than 30 people were transported to the hospital just before noon today. the evacuation was swift and at least seven different fire departments transported 35 students and faculty members to the hospital today but questions remain at west babylon high school as to what caused their symptoms. we spoke to several students as they left the hospital. >> i started hyperventilating and they put me on oxygen. >> i'm noxious, light headed. >> reporter: it's a police investigation. it started in a front hallway near a home he can room. fire marshals and police investigators don't know if it was deliberate or accidental. >> the school district is viewing the cameras to determine if there was anything that went on in the hallway at that time. >> param

. >> this happened at west babylon high school. eyewitness news reporter stacey sager in suffolk county with that story. stacy. >> reporter: what's really interesting about this is it's now become a police investigation, and authorities here in west babylon are not yet sure if school will even be open here. this is what things looked like earlier today just after noontime today here at west babylon high school. a 9-1-1 call comes in, students we talked to say they felt dizzy, overcome. 35 of them were transported to the hospital as police and fire officials still trying to figure out what caused all of accidental or deliberate. here's what the students and authorities had to say. >> it started in the main hallway down by one of the home ec rooms. unsure what the problem is at this time. we're still in the process of investigating to find out the cause of the irritant. >> i started like hyperventilating and they put me on oxygen and took me here. >> did you smell anything? >> no there wasn't really that suspicious of a smell but the

today school generally starts around 9:00. 9:30 here at west babylon high school. this a day after 36 students and several school staff members went to the hospital because we want to show you this video. emergency crews all over this campus. they attended to those people who felt dizzy. they told first responders they had a sore throat. all of this happening around midday yesterday. firefighters evacuated the school around lunchtime after a report of fumes had made dozens of people sick. again, 36 students, several staff members went to the hospital. here's what one of the students said. take a listen. >> very dizzy and they were like coughing. >> they didn't smell anything. they didn't see anything. all that happened was they could feel a burning sensation in their throat. >> reporter: and you just heard from the fire chief. the fire department involved in this, so is the police department. this is a large school. 1300 students attend it. late last night, school administrators decided there will be school and after-school activities today. for anyone to come forw
