. >> well, you may know this if you're in the bahamas right now. a new tropical storm dumping heavy rains in your part of the world. where's it headed next? >> here's ivan cabrera who should have the answer for us. >> it could become a hurricane here because we've had only three storms so far in the atlantic season. we've had arthur, we've had bertha and now we have cristobal here in the bahamas. not the most impressive-looking storm but it is deceiving because it's been bringing very heavy rainfall to portions of the bahamas, puerto rico has been getting in on that, hispaniola, eastern cuba and guantanamo getting in on that as well. 85 clocker tkilometer per hour . it's stationary, and that's what's dangerous for the bahamas because it's raining heavily and the rain is not moving. it will by 24 hours. not making that much progress to the north but it's beginning to get there and then hooking out to the east. we're pretty confident now that this thing is going to miss the united states, the eastern sea board so that's excellent news as we approach

it's around the bahamas. as it gets closer, our rip we have the high risk rip current through tonight. it will continue as we go into the next few days. look at the models here. they continue bringing cristobal right off the east coast. by wednesday, thursday, it will pass by closer to us. again, moving out to sea at this time. we still do expect a good risk of rip currents through the area, dangerous rip currents. it will continue as we go even into the end of the week. for now, we have the high risk of rip currents for the rest of day. this will go at least through thursday, strong risk of rip currents means dangerous water conditions. you don't want to swim with this around. we have the wind. as cristobal continues to move through, that rip current risk will remain around. fur he if you are heading to the shore, be aware we expect this to continue through mostly the entire week. coming up, a closer look at this and also your labor day weekend forecast with some warmer temperatures. that's straight ahead. >

. >> i'm hearing there is a tropical storm in the bahamas, a slow one? >> meteorologist: that's right. and that's the problem. we're seeing rain over the same place for really a long time. let me give you the satellite picture here. this covers a huge area all across hispaniola and jamaica, and of course, it crosses the bahamas as well. it's moving very slowly, and that's the problem, it's moving 5 kilometers per hour. it's the speed that the storm is moving. the winds, well, they ar the main problem is the amount of rain. there will be 300 millimeters of rain before this storm pulls away. we've seen parts of the 128 millimeters of rain and in the capitol we've seen 17 millimeters of rain. clearly there has already been rain and there is plenty more to come. we're going to see this gradually move away towards the north. because it's moving so slowly it will be with us and there will still be heavy rain across the bahamas. plenty of showers following as well. there could even be some landslide. >> thanks for that. in scotland anticipation is growing ahead

now it is impacting with the bahamas well.sory, we're just a few hours away from the national weather advisory. 55 kph. that's one reason the computer model forecasts are having trouble. we like a well defined center of circulation and we get better forecasts in the future. we'll get here. there's the low. there are tropical storm warnings from the bahamas. turks and caicos out of that. they're still looking at some squally weather. there it is. there's the track. eventually this is a five-day cone of uncertainty. that does include parts of the united states. most of the models still insisting this will go to the north, meaning east of the united states so that is the forecast right now. we like that, but look at the slow movement over the next few days. this is dangerous for the bahamas, obviously, because it's tropical rainfall and it's pouring over the same area day in and day out. that is a lot of water, 13 inches, over a foot, and that is a potential here. we're looking at eventually 4 to 8 inches and a foot. people poste

summer heat and humidity are just around >>> it's levering the bahamas now.e're keeping an eye on that and storm team meteorologist tom is here now. is it going to effect us? >> it's going to be staying off the coast. if you have beach plans keep this in mind. there could be strong rip currents at the atlantic beach, delaware beaches down to ocean city. it's going to be tracking off the atlantic seaboard. there's the view from space now. it's still fairly disorganized. it's still dumping a lot of rain on the bahamas and it's still a tropical storm. this is just updated. the trends are tracking slowly. remaining a tropical storm through the day into tuesday. then as it tracks farther to the north and east it will curve out the sea and track between bermuda and the outer banks. by then it may be a category one herk by 8:00 on wednesday morning continuing to track off to the northeast well off the atlantic seaboard. well east of new england and the canadian maritimes as a category 1 hurricane toward tend of the week. watch out for some of those strong currents a

right now it's just south of the bahamas and that red you see are tropical storm warnings for the bahamashe models are ta taking this to the east. so it will stay well off the east coast passing the carolinas and it is expected to become a category one hurricane by thursday. right now winds are at 35 miles per hour but it will start to pick up speed over and steam over the next 48 hours. some tracks do have it, though, going tore the coast of florida. so this is one especially if you'll be traveling during the week keep your eye on this as it continues to develop because those tracks are still far out so we'll have to wait to see. but if you're going to the south certainly keep your eye on that and we'll keep updating you as we get new advisories in. but now, for tomorrow, it is niece one we don't have to worry about anything. 80 degrees here in the city. plenty of sunshine much winds out of north so make it a little bit chilly. breezy, though. it will be on the beach. winds will be picking up about 15 to even 20 miles per hour. going at the phillies game tomorrow, 75 degrees 1:35 start.
