nbc bay area's pete suratos joins us live along the san francisco bay with this story. pete, what are you learning? >> yeah, well, we're learning this algae bloom is really affecting the entire san francisco bay, like you see behind me here. the experts are telling us it's a combination of factors. and we saw the impact of this algae bloom firsthand at oakland's lake merritt. for several hours today at lake merritt, you can see crews removing piles of dead fish. a surreal scene for locals, trying to figure out what's going on. >> it looks biblical. it's pretty awful. >> it's concerning because it's a huge living lake. and everything seems to be at a stand still. >> mostly what we're thinking is that there is a -- just a perfect storm of conditions right now that's causing this particular algae to just bloom and flourish. >> the executive director of san francisco's bayary keeper, a nonprofit devoted to protecting the bay. she says the perfect storm of too many nutrients in the water combining with warm water temperatures is causing an algae bloom to grow out of control

east bay hills.ou get to places like livermore. right now, you've got some poor air quality in a place like fairfield to see the center there turning red, that some very poor being picked up there along the coastline and up to the sea breeze. see the green here. but yeah, it's going to be hazy again. i think for tomorrow we're just not seeing that much mixing not enough wind in the atmosphere to get rid of. the plume is here with that high pressure ridge just so strong. minor amounts of showing up in the north bay. i think you're still looking good air quality along the coastline with the sea breeze there, the east bay in the south bay. again, looking to pare poor air quality tomorrow that on shore flow is starting to kick in, though. and that is a nice thing to see after the record heat around the bay area. but this dome of high pressure will start to weaken a little bit. there's little front that's going to roll over the top of that ridge. that's going flatten out that ridge just a little bit. and
